Who Does That?

Who Does That?

Every once and a while I see something and I can only say,

“Who does that?”

We live in a townhouse community.  At the entrance to this community is the mail area.  There is a mail box to send your letters, and a wall that has locked mail boxes for all 220 units.  Above the mailboxes is a cork board for posting notices, ads, and the occasional miss-delivered piece of mail.

Last week when I stopped to pick up my mail there were two identical notices on the cork board:

NOTICE

"DO NOT SIT IN YOUR CAR AT THE MAIL BOX TO SORT AND READ YOU  MAIL"
Thank you

These notices were computer printed in multiple colors and were laminated in plastic.  Someone had gone to quite a bit of trouble…for what?  Because they had to wait behind a car while the driver sorted through his mail?  Like you couldn’t wait 45 seconds before you could pull your car up to the mail area.  Even better, perhaps you could just park behind the sorter and walk 8 feet to your mail.

Someone went to a lot of effort to chastise and warn the entire association to not inconvenience them by sorting their mail in the car after they pick it up.

Who does that?

These notices should not upset me, but they do.  It is just so presumptuous, obnoxious, and ridiculous.  This person went to considerable trouble just to be the townhouse mail-pick-up Nazi, and for some reason it really pisses me off.

Now every time I  pick up my mail, I yank one of the notices off and leave it on the ground.   (I did not tear the notice in half)

Is that childish?

It’s just that in 8 years I have never once noticed or felt inconvenienced by someone sorting his mail while still parked by the mailboxes.  And there is not just one notice, the person staples up two identical notices!

I’m pretty sure this is the same person who posted on the corkboard and all over the fence in the pool area this summer that

“NO ALCHOHOL IS ALLOWED IN THE POOL AREA!!”

Keep in mind that in 8 years before this Pool notice I have never seen anyone with alcohol in the pool area.  Well maybe I’ve seen someone with a can of beer…like once.

If I were to post a notice:

"Please don't shit on the street!"

It would be just as relevant.

Anyway:

Who does that?

After I rip off and throw one of the mail sorting warnings on the ground,  the next day it is always stapled back up.

Who does that?

I’ll bet it pisses them off.  I’ll bet every time she (pretty sure it is a she) re-staples it back she mumbles,

“Who does that?”

  1. There's always at least one per community. One busy-body who needs to tell everyone what they should be doing. In our house, it's me. I'm the one.

  2. "Is that childish?"
    yes, just ignore the notice.
On the other hand, I'd be the type to collect my mail, chuck it in the car and drive on home where I could sit in comfort and sort through while I have coffee. If someone was in front of me, sitting and sorting in the car, I'd do as you suggested, walk to the mailbox, collect my mail and go on home.

  3. Someone with too much time on their hands does this. I'm glad we are out of such a community and the mail person actually drives from mail box to mail box here and gets out of the car to deliver the mostly junk mail we get.

  4. Be honest Joe - if they weren't laminated (and therefore virtually indestructible) you WOULD be tempted to tear them in half wouldn't you ;-).

  5. I understand your anger. I am so glad we have postmen who deliver door to door. Even those people in the high rise flats get their mail delivered.

  6. Also someone who feels s/he has the right to never have to walk more than two feet to do anything. Those are the people who bug me. Get out of the car and get some exercise, silly!

  7. There is always someone who thinks the world revolves around them and, sadly, most of us fall into that category at some point in our lives. Put up a self serving notice...WHO DOES THAT.....tear down a self serving notice.....WHO DOES THAT. The sun will still come up tomorrow an it will shine on note writers and not rippers alike lol.

  8. That's why some people live thirty miles out on a dirt road with no neighbors in sight. If you live around other people you are going to be annoyed. Just ignore and move on.

  9. You, know don't you, Cranky, that really, life is just too short ...

  10. Tomorrow there will be two new notices:

"DO NOT RIP OFF THE MAIL-SORTING WARNINGS"

"DO NOT STAND AND TAKE PICTURES OF THE MAILBOXES"

  11. There is always that one person! I would hope one would sort through their mail before driving off in case a piece of mine was stuck in the stack! People are ridiculous. Pissed me off just reading these. ha. You HAVE to come up with your own note!

  12. Why are you littering Joe? That's worse than the signs. Who does that? Okay, I get your point. It's pretty rude to put those up there. We need to investigate who's doing this and smear their faces on that board.

Have a fabulous day Joe. ☺

  13. Well, first I want to know why you're pretty sure it's a she. Our mail nazi is male and creepy. He doesn't put up signs but he stands at the mailboxes and if you leave one sale ad behind he'll let you know. "Uh, you forgot to take everything out of your box." Lol..

  14. I'd be irritated also. We have signs telling people not to park in front of our mailboxes from 8-4 PM so the postal carrier can park near the mailboxes but people do anyway.

  15. I lived in a community like that for a short time once and that sort of conduct always pissed me off.

  16. Y'know I really, really want to answer your question.
But my answer is facetious and almost irrelevant.
So I am showing great restraint by not telling you who I think it is.
Maybe I will make it a secret message in my blog post on Thurday...

...if I have a blog post on Thursday

  17. Man, Joeh. Life is fukkin' short, and there are other things going on, too numerous to mention.
I assume you write these not based on how you actually feel, but on what you think your readers expect....cranky old man and all that.
I do so hope this isn't reality for you. that'd be tough.

    cheers,
    Mike

    1. I may be guilty of embellishing a bit, but I am pretty cranky.

  18. I think you should put up a sign about not shitting in the street. And then, of course, take a picture and post it here.
