MISSING IRS EMAILS
A cranky opinion for
CRANKY OPINION SATURDAY
The following is the opinion of a
cranky old man with no knowledge of the subject opined. Opposing opinions are welcome. They are welcome but they will be ignored and
please no name calling. That means you,
you big stupid head!
The
Republicans are once again making a big deal out of nothing. The IRS is being questioned about what
appears to be targeted rulings against Conservative groups that hindered
political contributions and affected the election process. This is just silly as similar rulings were
made against Liberal groups, though not as many and not as severe.
Republicans
are looking to see if any of these decisions were ordered or encouraged by the
White House. Part of their inquiry was a
request for emails by the agency.
Apparently many emails were lost.
There was a hard drive problem and hard discs were destroyed.
Hey it
happens. Although it never happened to
my knowledge on Wall Street. Wall Street
firms have gotten themselves into lots of trouble because of emails. Disgraced Ex-Governor of New York and former
Att. Gen. Elliot Spitzer made sure he collected emails and uncovered illegal
activities on Wall Street. I don’t
recall any firms claiming lost emails.
Hard
drive? Don’t firms and Government
agencies collect this information on a central computer? I know I was told at work that deleting an
email did not mean the email was destroyed.
Anyway, IRS emails,
mostly those sent to the Administration were lost.
It happens.
Richard Nixon’s secretary Rose Mary Woods accidently erased 18 minutes of a tape during the Watergate hearings. No one questioned that did they? Accidents happen don’t they? Smoking gun…ridiculous.
It happens.

Move on
Republicans. No one is using the IRS to
restrict or sway the Democratic process.
Stop wasting everyone’s time and move on to something important. Something important like prosecuting athletes
for lying to Congress about steroid use.
Isn’t lying to Congress the most egregious offense there is.
Or
If you
really think the White House used the IRS to punish conservatives, prove
it. It shouldn’t be that Hard.
A little Drive and you should
find evidence if evidence exists.
Otherwise...
Otherwise...
Move on
Republicans, nothing to see here.
The preceding was the opinion of a
cranky old man, and not necessarily that of management…Mrs. Cranky.
Records are such a damn problem. We have open records laws in Ohio and every entity must define its records and their retention schedule. I used to keep back up discs stacked on edge, in a little box. When the box was full, I'd take several from the old end and shred them. One day I realized they were records, too, even if they were backups of paper records (dinosaur government), they weren't on my retention schedule and there I was, shredding. In for a penny, in for a pound, I shredded another dozen.
ReplyDeleteI keep waiting for this group to drain the swamp like they promised. They sure haven't. There's no transparency one bit. Both sides of the aisle sucks. We need to remove them all and replace them with folks that know what "We the People" means.
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific day. :)
Back during the Watergate era Rose Mary Woods received much flack over deleting those 18 minutes, which to most people seemed quite intentional. But I agree with everything else you've written. The Republicans, in my opinion, are not interested in governing, they are only interested in obstructionism. American global preeminence is faltering while our "Do Nothing Congress" spends millions of taxpayer dollars to bring down this administration. America is burning while Conservatives in Congress fiddle and position themselves for political advantage.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone not sure, my Liberal friend Stephen (and I do consider him a friend) is cleverly using his own satire to change the topic to a "Do nothing Republican Congress being responsible for all that is wrong in politics. That is fair, Republican Administrations have made the same claims in the past. It does disturb me how easily the potential abuse of the IRS to the political process has been so simply dismissed by so many. If the IRS has indeed abused its power to subvert the political process it is at least as egregious as Nixon's "dirty tricks." Those missing emails are more than disturbing . If they were deliberately destroyed heads should roll.
DeleteI could be wrong, but I smell cover-up. My limited knowledge of computers, storage and back-ups along with expert opinions I have read say lost data of this magnitude is more that highly unlikely. And if true the incompetence of many people involved is monumental.
In other words, they are lying, they know it, I know it and all thinking people know it. It just may be difficult to prove.
Stay tuned, I expect some 5th amendment rights being declared soon.
Hey! Did you know the original NASA videotapes of the Apollo 11 moon landing were erased to save money? That NASA, always so thrifty. Who woulda thought that might be history one day?
ReplyDeleteSo...NASA hired a Hollywood film restoration company to spiff up some assorted clips to make a NEW version of the first men on the moon. Now that record of the event will be history.

This administration makes Nixon's look like a bunch of pussies. At least Nixon tried to hide most of his unconstitutional activities. These guys do them out in the open and dare anyone to stop them. Thankfully, the Supreme Court has a few times (by 9 - 0 decisions, too.)
ReplyDeleteAnd it is for reasons like this that I don't follow the news as much as I should. Hubby is up and knowledgeable on a lot of things going on. I know I should be, but probably won't be happening any time soon.
ReplyDeletebetty
When Mitt Romney left the governorship all the computers drives in his offices were erased and all the hard drives were sold to staff and others. There was nothing left when the press placed a freedom of information request on what he had done during his tenure. Republicans are not as stupid as Democrats.
ReplyDeleteI know nothing of Mitt's actions after he left as Governor. If what he did was wrong, I don't hear anyone complaining...what were the allegations for requesting the info? The subject of this post is the abuse of using the IRS to intimidate the political process. I think that is a very scary issue regardless of your political position. Turning the discussion to Republican actions does not mitigate the seriousness of the possible Administrations abuse of power. But then Republicans didn't think a stupid break and entry was very important either. They also thought a cover up was not serious. I disagree on all points.
