HELP! I’M A PRISONER IN DISNEY WORLD

HELP! I’M A PRISONER IN DISNEY WORLD

For the third year in a row, Mrs. C, a Disney-o-phile has whisked me away to Disney World.  She is a Disney Vacation Club member.  Lodging is paid for in a time share kind of thingy.  All we have to pay for is airfare, Disney passes, food, trinkets for family members, and a funny hat or two that it turns out lots of other people also have.  The hats are really not that funny when you see about twenty of them every day.  So this five day vacation will really only cost me a little less than $35,000.

I hate all things Disney.  Mrs. C loves all things Disney.  Her Disney love trumps my Disney hate.  When I complain, she threatens to leave me in Florida.  She knows I could never find my back to New Jersey by myself, so I behave.   It is not easy.   I have already done virtually every ride several times in previous years.  How many times can floating through a “Pirates of the Caribbean” set be fun?

“Oooh look, Johnny Depp saying pirate crap.  Look, drunken pirates and ugly pirate hags.  Oooh!”

There are only two things I like at any of the Disney Parks.  People watching and the “Toy Story” ride.  If you really want to feel good about your health; if you want to feel thin (and I am about 40 pounds away from being almost thin) visit a Disney Park.  If you want to feel good about your well behaved children or grandchildren, visit a Disney Park.  The Disney Parks are overflowing with extremely large people, extremely bratty children, and extremely unhappy parents.

Welcome Home!

I do love the “Toy Story” 3D ride where you shoot targets and earn points.  I hammered Mrs. C this year (again!) 125,700 to 114,200.

Woo Hoo!

Anyway, day one is over.  My feet hurt, I am tired, I am extra cranky.

Tomorrow I am sneaking away and playing golf.  Hopefully I can stay out of those friggin Mickey-ear sand-traps.

  4. Everything you say about Disney World is true, but I still love it.
I will be glad to go with Mrs. C next time....I would even let her win in the Toy Story ride.

  5. My DIL is a Disney lover. We took Todd to Disney World when he was a teenager. About drove me nuts with all the people. Not sure Todd was too impressed either.

  7. I've never been to Disney World or Disney Europe. The very idea sends a shudder down my spine!

  8. Sounds like an inexpensive golf vacation to me. Isn't New Jersey just up 95, and take a right at New Jersey.

  10. How interesting that my Mrs. C. also has a love of all things Disney. I told her a few years ago that from now on she can go to Disneyland without me. Only a grandchild could coerce me into returning. So far I'm safe.

  11. We live about 20 minutes away from Disneyland. Every year we would buy annual passes for everyone in our (very large) family. But now? We can't. They have raised the annual pass price to almost $300 per ticket. We used to pay just $129 per ticket. So with 12 in our family, it's just way out of budget now. Such a bummer, because we all really loved Disneyland. Especially in the month of December. The grounds are just so pretty with all the festive flowers and such. And when you have a pass it's not really stressful when the lines are long -- you just skip those rides and know you can get on them another day soon. The only time that I hate going to Disneyland is when we join up with another family. I can't stand being there with anyone other than my husband and my OWN kids! I hate waiting for other people to make up their minds about where to eat, which ride to ride, and bathroom breaks. I hate hearing other people's kids whine and complain. I simply have no patience for all that. With my family it's easy - we know where we are going, we know we won't be eating food in the park (paying outrageous prices - no way. We eat A LOT of food at home before we go! and my kids just know we won't be eating again until we get home. We bring granola bars and stuff like that in our backpacks to snack on, but no food is ever bought inside of Disneyland) and bathroom breaks are very quick and we all go at once. It's like, "Here's a bathroom that has no line. Get IN and GO! We won't be stopping again for a while." With a large family such as ours, you learn to eat and you learn to go to the bathroom on OUR schedule, not yours. Sounds harsh, I know...but it's the only way we can go places like this without it being a total pain in the butt. The kids are used to our ways, and we really do have a great time at Disneyland. Or... we DID...until they raised the darn prices to get into the place.

  12. My condolences. Golf is definitely the antidote.

But hey, like they say, "If the wife ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."

    So suck it up.

  13. Hi Mrs. C! Thanks for correcting Cranky. I was wondering about the 35 grand. No Mickey Mouse ears are worth that, unless it's a life long time share he was talking about.

Anyway, I've done Disney as a single adult with my (at the time) 60 year old parents; again with husband, my baby and toddler in a double stroller, and again when I'd had another kid.

But, I was determined to have fun! It's been 8 years; time to go back I guess. Maybe I'll see you and Mrs. C there. I'll recognize you by seeing a smiling, prancing woman, and a sweating, dragging man.

  14. I was actually at the CA Disneyland the year it opened--& a VERY few times since!! I remember I was pregnant & had to convince them to let me on the Matterhorn ride.

  15. Disney Land is fun with kids really small. It is OK for a couple of days for adults. If any one really loves Disney I would let them enjoy while nicely excusing my self. I don't make the kind of money needed to get those Season Passes either. I guess to each his own. Sorry !

  16. Hey, you are just a short 50-minute ride from my corner of the world! If you get too exhausted from Disney, feel free to stop by my house and help with trimming the tree, washing the windows, cutting the lawn. THAT should teach you "cranky and tired."

We've lived here for over six years and have been to Disney only once. Do tell me what it's like... ;-)

  17. I am not fond of crowds, nor of rides. Disney World is not my teacup of tea.
