Soap Costs What?
“They are
ripping people off, just because hand sanitizer is hard to buy these days because
of Covid-19.”
“How much
is it?”
“Fifteen
dollars and you can’t get it on Amazon.
They say that like it is something special, probably Amazon won’t sell
it as they are ripping people off.”
“You
think?”
“Sure, Hell,
what does a simple bar of soap cost, Fifty cents?”
“What? This is not 1950 you know.”
“Well,
the last time I bought soap…come to think of it, I have never bought soap.”
Imagine
that, 74 years old and I have never bought soap.
“How
could it be you have never bought a bar of soap?”
“Well, I
never bought it at home, in college I just brought soap from home or used what
was left in the fraternity house shower. When I got
married my wives did the shopping and I just have never bought soap.”
“Amazing!”
“So what
does a bar of soap cost?”
“Around
$1.50 to maybe $5.00 for the expensive stuff.”
“Holy
cow, no wonder you don’t throw away the slivers.”
I have to
get out more…but not for another few weeks.
We don't throw away the slivers either. Hubby uses them. Me not so much.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, Joe. 😎
Our soap is worn to a flat thing. We don't do down to the slivers, tho.
DeleteMy husband is the only one who uses the bars. I guess I need to break out my division skills because I buy soap in bundle packs, so I don't know the cost per bar off the top of my head.
ReplyDeleteI bought four bars at a small Mexican grocery here several weeks ago but I can't remember what I paid for them.
ReplyDeletehow is the quality? I miss Dollar Tree.
DeleteI haven't bought a bar of soap in ages, but I used to get a 2 pack of Irish Spring for $1.98. We actually found hand sanitizer at Wal-Mart the other day. Regular size for $1.97. First time we have been able to find it since this all began. In the beginning when we were looking for it and found "deals" on Amazon what was amazing was not only the cost of the hand sanitizer but how much shipping cost for it. Almost double of what the hand sanitizer cost!
ReplyDeleteYep, we all have to get out a bit more after we can safely do so.
betty
I hate price gougeing and hope people go to jail for it
ReplyDeleteI believe they can.
DeleteOh dear, I am dreadful on prices--probably why I don't have a big portfolio. People will say, did you see how much soap or milk has gone up and I just mumble something unintelligible. I just reach, grab, toss things in the basket and perhaps gasp at my check out total but am not aware of the individual prices. Bad Patti.
ReplyDeleteI take note of every price and add up as I go along because I shop with limited amounts.
DeleteOur store has one-way tapes. So far we are about the ones who pay directions.
ReplyDeleteUm, I don't know about ladies soaps, but I buy 12 packs of Irish Spring 'Deep Scrub' bars at CVS, regular priced $9.79 (but they're on sale ALL the time). So even at regular price, they don't cost me more than 80 cents a bar. Joe, you weren't that far off the mark--for my brand, at least :)
ReplyDeleteDude! Life is passing you by! You don't know the price of a bar of soap. Because..THAT'S important. Said no man ever.
ReplyDeleteThey announced in the province of B.C. that they're now tracking down and fining anyone who tries to rip someone off by "price gouging". The fine is two grand. I'll be curious to see how that all plays out.
Buying soap is the first step to a slippery slope.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
We usually buy soap at Sam's club and I can't remember how much it is for the pack of a gazillion. I do know that a chicken all cooked is only 4.98...just in case you ever have a post about chicken.
ReplyDeleteAt first I was shocked that you'd never bought a bar of soap. Then I was shocked that I don't know what I pay for soap. I get the 8-pack of Irish Spring With Aloe. Just throw it in the cart. That's what's on my list, no need to notice the price. It's not like I'd go without soap if it was a few cents too high.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you need to buy soap. Dollar Tree has two bars for a dollar, but they aren't antibacterial.
ReplyDeleteI buy my rose scented soap from BigW, in packs of eight, for $4.50 which makes each bar around 56 cents, and also from BigW, for my kids, I buy the old green Palmolive bars in packs of ten for $3.50, which is 35 cents each bar. I buy for the kids because their house is between me and my favourite BigW, so I just let myself in with my key on my way home and leave the soap for them. I'm not paying big prices for something that gets washed down the drain.
ReplyDeleteI never ever through soap away. When it is down to it's bitter end I press it onto a brand new bar and start again. I think I got that from the war years and rationing.
ReplyDeleteno way this is to much price anyway
ReplyDeleteand i thought only my country men take advantage of their nation during such hard times
