STOP MAKING 3-D movies!

STOP MAKING 3-D movies!

I do not like the 3-D movie craze.  It is a neat effect for about five minutes and then it just gets annoying.  This is not a new thing, why do they keep trying to bring it back.  It gives me a headache.

This is probably the third time around for 3-D.  Hopefully three strikes and 3-D is out.  There was 3-D in the fifties with really annoying cardboard glasses.

I saw “The Creature From the Black Lagoon” in 3-D.  The creature was extra scary when he reached out right in your face…otherwise…eh.

I saw “The House of Wax” in 3-D.  There was one scene with a carney dude whacking on of those paddle ball on a rubber band things right out at the audience.  That was really cool…but…

That is the thing with 3-D, instead of concentrating on making a good movie; they have to work-in cool 3-D effects, usually to the detriment of the story.  The 3-D thing becomes distracting.  It is strangely unrealistic.  Mrs. Cranky has a thing about glasses.  They bother the bridge of her nose.  She holds the glasses up to her eyes by hand for the entire movie.  Why do we have to watch a movie with special goofy glasses?

Three-D movies failed in the 50’s and 60’s.  Three-D comics were a flop.  There have been 3-D cameras…yawn.  Three-D TV is not catching on, why do they keep making movies in 3-D?

I just heard they are going to put out a 3-D version of “The Wizard of Oz” to commemorate the 75th anniversary of that film.  This is Mrs. Cranky’s favorite movie so I will have to see it…damn.  Now my flying monkey nightmares will be in 3-D.    How much better will “The Wizard of Oz” be with this special effect?  Will the dude that hung himself be swinging in 3-D?

Please Hollywood…stop the 3-D.  It is annoying, it is not realistic, and it is more of a distraction than it is an attraction.

  1. Yeah, I agree. I've seen nothing memorable in 3-D. And if you already wear glasses, and then have to wear their glasses on top of yours, that's just dumb. I say spend more money on chase scenes or dancing girls instead of that stupid clunky camera.

  2. Oh my gosh, Joe. Knuckles. I'm with you 100%. They just end up making me nauseous. I went to the Star Wars 3D movie as the latest (and last) 3D movie I will ever see. I love Star Wars. They ruined it trying to do 3D. Leave old movies alone!! Wizard of Oz was also my favorite movie growing up...what the heck? Other than the flying monkeys, some tornado debris and the witch flying, what are they going to make 3D??? For crying out loud...I'll watch the original and skip the 3D version to commemorate the 75th anniversary.

  3. 3D is a headache at a cinema.
We simply don't go to them.

  4. Just watched Avatar last night on TV, without the special effect of course. What a stupid movie, so much plagiarism in it. Can't understand how this thing made such a big splash.

  6. But, Joe, who is going to pay for all that investment?

  7. I agree! Also, they charge like $5 extra at the movie theater for this. Which makes me mad because, like you said after 5 minutes my kids take off their glasses and there goes my money! It's stupid and not needed to make a movie better. Either it's a good movie or it's not!

  9. So on the same page. In fact I've just written a post on 3D as well - scheduled to go out tomorrow. I refuse to see anything in 3D.

  10. I am sick of 3D as much as I am sick and tired of producers/directors putting out remakes of really great films.

  12. I've never liked it, and now avoid it. My father-in-law bought a 3D TV and heaps of 3D movies, and I don't think he's used the 3D feature since the week after he bought it.

  13. 3D is a huge nuisance for those of us who wear glasses. Until they make them so you can see it without the glasses I'm going to pass.

  14. Totally, 100% agree. Hate them.
But here's what I can't work out. All over the internet I am reading comments and rants saying "Ugh, enough with the 3D movies!" So who is actually watching them?

  15. I totally agree. They cost more and you have to fork out for those bloody 3D specs that make the movie darker.

I think it will fade and die because the BBC have given up on 3D TV programmes due to lack of interest.

    :-)
