ABSENT MINDED OR OLD?

ABSENT MINDED OR OLD?

People make jokes about old people and “senior moments”, but when you reach Social Security age and your mom suffered from Alzheimer’s, these little moments are not that funny.  When you have a bout of what my sister-in-law calls “Old-timers’ disease”, it is more a cause of concern than something to joke about.  Today I had just one such moment.

On my way home from being Grandpa Joe to two of my Crankettes, about an hour and a half drive, I got a call from my daughter in North Carolina.  I was listening  talking for about 15 minutes when I arrived  home and parked in my garage.  While still on the phone I grabbed my bag and my PC, went into my house and emptied my pockets.  I emptied my change, my wallet, my money clip and my keys.  Still on the phone I thought “SHIT, I left something in the car”.  Still on the phone with my daughter, I went back out to the garage, opened the car door, and still on the phone I peered into the car looking for the one item I forgot……MY CELL PHONE!!

I often forget my cell phone when I get home.  I often leave it in the car and don’t realize it until I empty my pockets.  Today I momentarily panicked when I did not see the phone in the car until I finally realized….I WAS TALKING TO MY DAUGHTER ON THE PHONE!!

Some of you young folks may think this is funny, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

  2. Ah yes, this 47 year old gal has had a few of those moments. Actually, that exact same moment! I once looked around for my phone while I was on it too! Did I feel silly.

  5. Have you ever heard of 'mummy brain'? This is so something that I would do, except I don't often talk on the phone--more of a texter myself, but I've had my moments such as this.

  6. sounds like me hunting high and low for my glasses when I am already wearing them....It happens to the best of us Cranky and I don't think it is linked to old age - just momentary dementia!

    You are not alone...

  7. we were at the dr.'s the other day. i couldn't think of what i wanted to say to the lady behind the window. i blamed it on cranky. i told her, since i live with a senior i've inherited his senior moments. who am i kidding i've been having senior moments all along, but now i can blame them on someone else. isn't life great!!
