Out of Place?
This Sunday Mrs.
C and I went to a show. Mrs. C loves
concerts and shows, me, not so much. This
one, however, I was on board. We went to
see Darcy Lynne at a local theater.
Darcy Lynn
is a ventriloquist. She won “America’s Got
Talent” in 2017. She is only 14, but she
is very talented.
I felt out
of place. Why?
The show
started at 3:00. I thought it was strange
for a show to be so early, but figured it was because Darcy is so young. Standing in line the real reason for the early
show became apparent. Every one in line was
either a parent with a ten-year-old daughter, or a grandparent with a ten
year-old granddaughter or a ten-year-old girl.
Mrs. C and I
were the only adults who did not bring a ten-year old girl as an excuse to see
Darcy. If I had known, we could have
found someone with a ten-year-old daughter we could have borrowed to feel more
comfortable at this show.
The atmosphere
was like going to a Howdy Doody show with out a child…almost creepy, except
Darcy is a good enough performer to entertain anyone.
Once the
show started I was more comfortable, this young lady is terrific. She is a skilled ventriloquist, has a
wonderful singing voice and so do her puppets, and she has the stage presence
of a veteran performer.
Apparently,
Darcy is a hero to young girls, as she should be, but old people can enjoy her
act as well, really, it’s not creepy.
Darcy Lynne:
I'm not a big fan of ventriliquism, but I appreciate the skill involved in learning and performing. To be so accomplished at 14 is a skill indeed.
ReplyDeleteOMG that was wonderful, and amazing. I wish I had seen her on Britain's Got Talent - live. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Off to have another look!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and middle child are big AGT fans, so I remember when Darcy was on. She really is fantastic. We went to see Terry Fator (second winner of AGT, years ago) in Vegas and he was very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteIs Darcy traveling around, rather than a Vegas show? I've always wondered how that worked for the winners. Not everyone wants to live in Vegas.
We thought she was terrific too.
ReplyDeleteI guess you and Mrs. C could have stood close to someone else's 10-year-old and pretended she was with you. But that would have been creepier than being 10-year-old-less.
ReplyDeleteI love her. She's amazing. I put her video on my Facebook page. She's the best.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, Joe. 😎
I saw her on AGT--loved her then, love her now!!
ReplyDeleteHad to laugh. I once saw there was going to be a book signing at the library and I use to love talking to authors. Didn't check out what kind of book and yes, it was a children's book. I was almost the only adult in the room outside of the author's mother who had the courtesy to talk to me.
ReplyDeleteGreat talent appeals to any age.
ReplyDeleteSeveral years back, Bigger Girl decided it was time to say good-bye to childhood. She and i attended our final Sesame Street Live together. None of the other kids wanted to go. We got treats and a program, and we laughed and sang through the performance. It was fun, and at the end, she said it was perfect, she could put her childhood to rest with a smile.
I haven't seen her. But I would probably have felt out of place too.
