GUNS

GUNS
A cranky opinion for

CRANKY OPINION SATURDAY

The following is the opinion of a cranky old man with little knowledge of the subject opined.  Opposing opinions are welcome but wrong.  As always, please, no name calling (OK, I cheated and called everyone a Douchebag…sorry) and that means you, you big stupid-head!

OMG, I am so tired of all the arguments pro and con.

CON:

Violence in this country is greater than in countries that have tighter gun regulations.

Too many nut-jobs get their hands on guns that are not just for hunting and target shooting and we need to end mass killings in schools, theaters and malls.

Guns are bad, people are bad, killing is bad...bad, bad, bad.

PRO:

Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

The way to stop bad people with guns is with good people with guns.

If we take away the guns, criminals will not turn theirs in and they will be even more embolden.

Guns in the hands of citizens assure that government does not turn into anarchy.

Second amendment, blah, blah, blah!

To both sides of the argument, WE FUCKING GET IT!!

Stop the same incessant mantra and figure out a way to let honest, law abiding, responsible citizens keep their guns to hunt, target shoot, and feel safe from marauders and government run a muck, (Though I gotta say if the government wants to run your rights into the ground, good luck standing up to tanks and wart hogs with your pistols and shotguns) while at least reducing the number of gun holders who are not responsible.

Can we at least agree that people with crazy eyes, people with criminal records of violent behavior, and people that don’t know how to clean, aim, holster, lock and safely handle guns should find it difficult to own them?  Is that asking too much?

I don’t want to take your guns away if you are an honest, law abiding, responsible citizen.  I don’t want to force you to register every gun and track their where a bouts; I just want to make it more difficult for the wrong people to have easy access to guns.

To say that criminals will still have guns is not an argument if FEWER criminals will have guns!  Should we make bank robbery legal because it is currently illegal and what do you know, banks still get robbed?

Look, I get it, guns don’t kill people, people kill people.  But you have to admit, guns do make it a hell of a lot easier for people who kill people to kill a whole bunch of people in a short period of time.  Wouldn’t it be good if we could keep guns away from people who kill people?

To gun haters I say there is nothing wrong with responsible people owning guns.

To gun lovers I say stop that “slippery slope” nonsense that any gun restriction laws what-so-ever will lead to anarchy.

Please, gun lovers and gun haters, come together and work toward a common goal that lets responsible citizens keep their guns for hunting, target shooting, and personal protection while reducing the number of irresponsible, volatile wack-a-doodles and criminals who have access to guns.

Just figure a way to make things a little safer, or are we all so stupid that our current gun safety record just cannot be improved on in any way?

Both sides to this issue are full of crap! Just stop it and make things better!

Douchebags!!

Disclaimer: I do not own a gun, have never owned a gun and have never even held a gun, but some of my best friends have guns and they scare the shit out of me.  (The guns, not my friends.)

The preceding was the opinion of a cranky old man, and not necessarily that of management…Mrs. Cranky.

  1. UK doesn't go in for guns...there are laws against them, yet it's amazing how many manage to acquire guns and use them to kill. Even so, I'm glad we are a mostly gun-free community.

  2. Agreed, and have for a long time. There should be a way to make sure it's legal for my Sweetie to take his (mostly antiques or reproductions of antiques) guns to the target range (he won't hunt because he wouldn't want to actually hurt Bambi) and yet keep the things out of the hands of nut jobs. Everyone needs to put their thinking caps on and find it.

  3. Amen!
But Congress won't ever figure it out because they'd rather fight than compromise. Maybe if we allowed "open carry" in the spectator gallery they'd move faster!

  4. Absolutely. It just starts with the two sides in congress sitting down and talking in this vein, or perhaps their constituents sitting down and talking and coming to a compromise.

I wonder why this hasn't happened?

  5. It's a fact that states with strict gun laws have fewer gun related crimes than those that don't. It's a lie that liberals want to take away everyone's guns, perpetrated by the same people who say Pro Choice means unconditional support for abortion.

  6. Live in an open carry state, still freaks me out to see someone carrying one, but so far I am still alive. You brought up great points herr, it would be nice to see it happen in our lifetime but I doubt it.

  7. Once again you've hit the nail. But i don't think there is a good, intelligent answer to any of your questions. Although I really like J's comment.

  8. Smoke and mirrors. All this is smoke and mirrors to get us off the really important stuff. All these folks that are screaming about disarming the populace have armed guards watching over their and their families safety. They are talking out of both sides of their mouths as they always do.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

  9. Agree with you 100%.

What if we were to think of guns like any other "big" thing...let's say, cars. Before you can buy and use one, you need to register it, get a license for it, buy insurance for it. Oh, wait. That would mean we'd have to change some of our thinking.

  10. Does anyone really need an Uzi or a cannon to protect their home or hunt deer?

  11. Now Cranky, there you go again....making sense. As you know, I have guns, every one bought legally and with a background check. I am not at all concerned about the Feds knocking on our doors demanding we give up our firearms. There aren't enough Federales to make that happen. That is just a scare tactic used by the NRA to pull in more $$$. While it might be near impossible to define and identify who is mentally unstable and shouldn't have guns, it should be quite easy to identify past felons and disarm them. At this point, ANYTHING would be an improvement. There are just too many politicians of both parties making money ("campaign contributions") off the controversy, stirring the pot.

Why don't we fire all of them, then you and I could sit down and make some common sense changes? ;)

  12. i personally don't like guns. but they are all around me (at work, in my 'hood). my only wish is that not every yahoo could own (and seemingly does own) a semi-auto weapon (that they use for hunting???!!!) keep your pistols. keep your rifles. keep your shotguns. turn in your ak-47s and what-not. i hate target practice in my area. oh, yeah. i hate the cannon that my neighbors have even more. shakes the windows for about 1/2 a mile around. and is perfectly legal if shot before 10:30 p.m. *sigh*

  13. I agree with a lot said here by you and your commenters. I own two guns but mostly for varmint control. I am hugely for more laws regarding the owning of guns. You can't drive a car, which is also a dangerous weapon, with out testing and a licence. Don't think similar restrictions for gun ownership would cramp anyone's 2nd amendment rights.

  14. We have a whole passel of 'em. They rarely come out more than once or twice a year, to put dying livestock out of their misery. I don't know where most of them are stashed, they don't scare me, and I don't fear CRAZY-EYED folks brandishing them (like the case on my recent jury selection adventure).

I thought we already had a bunch of laws to register guns, and have a waiting period before buying one, and a background check. Guess I'm just ignorant of the current legislation. Because if we had those laws, they'd be working. Right?

  15. Hold the gun owners responsible (jail time) when their guns are used by crazy people. I get so fed up when I hear that Jimmy took the gun out of grandpa's closet and shot a classmate.

  16. I'm not sure what the answer is. I do own a couple of guns that I've had most of my life but I haven't fired them in many years.
I can't add any value to the debate so I'll keep my trap shut :)
