People often ask, “Cranky is there anything that makes you smile?”

Stupid question, of course there is a lot that makes me smile, here are a few that come to mind along with a comedy movie list just to create a little controversy.

These things make me smile:
A Prius at the gas pump

Whistler Ducks

A pro golfer mishitting the ball

The Patriots losing to the Giants

Cleavage that jiggles

Chris Rock

Melissa McCarthy

Blog comments

Labrador puppies

Mrs. Cranky

Ten funniest movies ever (In no particular order):

My Cousin Vinnie

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

The Jerk

Arthur (Dudley Moore)

The Nutty Professor (Jerry Lewis)

Trading Places

Young Frankenstein

I know, a lot of you are asking:

“How could you leave out ‘Airplane’ or any of the ‘Police Academy’ movies?” I could never watch those movies all the way through from beginning to end…very funny stuff but only in small doses.

Except for the campfire scene, I just am not a fan of "Blazing Saddles." And for you "Animal House" fans, I watched it recently... Meh!

  1. I like My Cousin Vinnie and the Jerry Lewis version of The Nutty Professor, but I can't stand Dudley Moore, not in anything.
I like Blazing Saddles too, when that first came out we bought it on VHS and my youngest son watched it every day of every school holidays until it broke, so we got him a new one...and so on until dvds were invented, then we bought him the dvd version. He's 33 now and still watches it.

  2. How about My Big Fat Greek Wedding? I don't watch many movies, so I'm not qualified to pass judgement on many on your list, but I enjoyed MBFGW. Actually, just typing MBFGW is sorta funny. Have a great weekend. I hope you find much to smile about. :)

  3. Labrador puppies would make Scrooge himself smile!! And I haven't seen Planes, Trains, And Automobiles for ages. What a funny movie!

  4. Parenthood? Office Space?

  5. Cute kitten photos Joe? Surely cute kitten photos make you smile ....

Definitely the camp fire scene in Blazing Saddles and last night I watched The Sure Thing, a very early John Cusack film which made me laugh out loud several times.

  6. whistling ducks made the cut!!! woo hoo! :)

i love my cousin vinny. quote from it often. :)

  7. I agree with you on Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Young Frankenstein, but can't say I'm with you on the others. I'd add Vacation, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Bridesmaids, Tropic Thunder and my all-time favourite funny movie, Without A Paddle!

  8. I love your list of movies as I've seen all of them. And many more too.

Have a fabulous day Cranky. ☺

  9. How about some golden retriever puppies????? Missing you Cranky getting back into the groove

    1. Welcome back MB. Hope the move has gone smoothly.

  10. I remember the first time I saw Woody Allen in "Sleeper" I laughed so hard I hurt the next day. "Animal House" never fails to make me laugh. I love walking around the U of O campus and seeing the places filmed in the movie. I also recently smiled at a YouTube video of a goat that went on a hunger strike and wouldn't eat for six days until reunited with his best friend, a donkey.

  11. anyone with a morbid sense of humor needs The End on their list. so terrible it's hilarious

  12. Sounds like the usual guy list, so you're doing just fine.

  13. Ok, I just had to see what makes Cranky smile. Patriots losing to anyone does it for me.
A perfect list of guy movies, haven't seen one of them. Sorry. The Gods Must be Crazy was my speed.

  14. I totally agree with you on Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. We watch it EVERY year for Thanksgiving.

  15. It's a mad, mad, mad, mad World and The Pink Panther are on my list, along with cats doing stupid stuff.

  16. I've gotta agree with you on The Jerk. Not claiming they're top ten, or even appropriate viewing, but some of my recent favorites are The House Bunny, Bad Teacher, and The Heat. Surely you can laugh at The Heat. It has Melissa McCarthy!

  17. I'm a big fan of all the movies you mentioned but the OLD movie that STILL makes me laugh the most is "It's A Mad, Mad World."

  18. A lot of things make me smile.. including your blog posts but the top smile-evoking movie is The Princess Bride.
