It must be nice to be rich.  Rich people have lots of stuff that only rich people can afford.  I wish I could afford some of this stuff.

Oh wait.

There are many things that at some point in my life time only rich people could afford.

A car-

A car with power steering, power brakes, power windows, air conditioner, an AM/FM radio and an 8 track tape player.

Have two with all of that…except the 8 track player…it has a multiple cd player instead…I know, that is also yesterday’s technology.

A 21 inch color TV.  Got several…all well over 21 inches.

A car phone.  Got a cell phone…much better.

A home computer.  Got one, plus a laptop plus a tablet, plus a smart phone.

Cable TV with HBO.  Got it on several TV’s with HBO, Stars, Encore, and some other channels I never watch.

Private plane.  Don’t want one…ok, can’t afford it.

Automatic garage door opener.  Got one.

Swimming pool.  Got one…well the townhouse association…that counts!

50’ Yacht.  Don’t want one…ok, can’t afford it either.

Vacation in the Caribbean.   Done that.

Phone answering machine.  Please!

Hi-fi record player.  What the hell is that?

Dishwasher.  Got one.

Microwave oven.  No really, they used to be a big deal.

A VCR.  Got several…well DVD players.

Refrigerator with water and ice dispenser.  Finally!

Come to think of it, it’s good to be rich!
Re-run from March 2015

  1. A dishwasher! I don't have one, but I'm sure you do.

  2. I gave up on the dishwasher and it's running costs. Quicker to wash dishes by hand, much faster and cheaper. It took many years to come to that conclusion!

  3. When I was a kid, I thought it would be grand to have a maid clean my house. Now, it doesn't seem that expensive to have someone clean your house, but that would be last on my list of wants.

  4. Rich people have one thing that we really don't want...a sense of entitlement bigger than the moon with the bad manners to accompany it.

  5. I'm comfortable and that's all I need. You're in the same place.

    Have a fabulous day. 😎

  6. I've had those thoughts as well on occasion, mostly when I compare my adult life with my Grandmother's. She never drove, she had to sit in my Grandad's huge ol' truck and bounce down the road to go to church. She had a (for reals!) ringer washer in the basement. The dryer was the line outside. No dishwasher. No microwave. No air conditioning (but they lived in upper PA, so probably not a seasonal issue, but a week or so). I am wealthy compared to how she lived, but she was happy. Isn't that it? Being happy and thankful for what you've got. :-)

  7. When I saw the title, I thought I was going to feel badly not being rich but you are right. In so many ways I really am rich and just looking at some other countries, I am in the top one percent of the world and that is without the yacht and plane.

  8. Yep, when we count our blessings and see what we have, even though the world doesn't consider us rich, we truly our rich indeed! I wouldn't want a private plane either. I can't afford it but I hate to fly. That would totally be a waste of money for me to purchase one P)

  9. We have so much, i wouldn't want to be that rich. Out of debt with a stable house and newer vehicles, plus able to give money to others when i see them in need, that's what i would want.

  10. I had a friend who was an attorney. He was like Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mocking Bird. He told me ones that we're living in Heaven. I looked at him funny when he said this. But he said it's true...and went on to explain.

He said his parents survived The Great Depression and they struggled to survive. He said they washed clothes in a cast iron wash pot that headed water over an open fire. They kept their milk cold by submersing it in their well. Their house was heated by a wood-burning fireplace in winter and there was no way to cool those houses during Alabama summers.
He said had his parents come back to life this day and time, they would think they were in Heaven. Central heating and cooling, dishwasher, automatic washing machines with dryers.
He said they would sit around all day and play harps :)
