Tattoo Do or Tattoo Don’t
Sitting on
the beach for the last three plus weeks it seems like everyone has a
tattoo. Tattoos can be kind of stupid as
you are stuck with one for as long as you live.
However, at 70 years old, the window for being stupid is almost
closed. Should I get a tattoo?
I hate the
full sleeve tattoos; they just look like a blob of ink. A tattoo should be discernible as some image
that defines the person. Mrs. C is pro
tattoo though she has none herself.
She thinks I
should get one on my arm…she thinks I still have good arms.
I am going
to leave it up to my readers (maybe).
Should an old dude get a tattoo?
I am
thinking of either Yosemite Sam,
or Fog Horn Leg Horn,
both cartoons I
like.
Or maybe
Cranky old
man Walter,
or the NY Giants.
What do you
all think, tattoo or no tattoo, and what should it be?
i don't have any tattoos - i can't even commit to a bumper sticker on my old car much less ink on my aging body. but you go for it if you feel compelled.
ReplyDelete(my 38 yo female shift sgt wants to get a full sleeve - and for the life of me, i don't get it...)
Mrs. C just suggested "Third time's the charm" with a little charm dangling...
ReplyDeleteI say, Ah...no!
I vote "yes" if you want one. Look at it this way: your tat isn't going to get all wrinkly as you get older, because your skin is already wrinkly (said the woman who got a tattoo--the phrase "Legalize freedom" around her wrist when she was an old and wrinkly 55).
ReplyDeleteHow about getting GOY (Get over yourself)? Don't pick a painful place, like the top of your foot or the inside of your knee or your scalp. People say those places really hurt.
How about Spike on the Tom and Jerry Show? Spike
ReplyDeleteYES!!! You could have, 'I used to be stupid (but now I'm just a jerk) OR, have one of Mrs C's shopping lists transcribed on to your arm - that would be a real statement of love ...
ReplyDeleteI think "I used to be stupid" would be fitting!!
DeleteI am not going to encourage you to get a tattoo.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if you do, get Yosemite Sam.
Also, take some time to make sure that the place you go is really good. You'd hate to have a bad Yosemite Sam the rest of your life.
Don't. I say take that money and do something fun for the both of you. Tattoos are expensive. Tattoos are painful. Don't.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. ☺
I hate tattoos, especially on women. I mean, a tattoo'd breast suggests private viewing. However, you don't want to upset Mrs C so you'd better go for it.
ReplyDeleteI've watched some of those 'Ink' shows and they have mentioned that old skin is more difficult to work on, with sometimes less desirable results. Try stabbing yourself a few times - if you like it, I say go for it if you must. Myself? No way!
ReplyDeleteIts just a faze. Youll grow out of it.

I'm not against tattoos and would get one if I ever happened upon a design I thought would improve my appearance. I think most tattoos look terrible and people who have them usually have too many.
ReplyDeleteYOLO! If you want one, get Yosemite Sam.
ReplyDeleteOld men. I swear.
ReplyDeleteWhile i'm not against it, i wouldn't do it, and i never suggest it.
ReplyDeleteCan men get tramp stamps?
ReplyDeleteLaughed out loud at S.J. Qualls. Great way to test the process.
ReplyDeleteMaybe buy her a "3rd time" charm for her bracelet and she will let up on you. Good luck.
Only get one if you ink on "Cranky Old Man."
ReplyDeleteI have a tattoo on my back from when I was drafted into the Army in 1971. It's a butterfly. Don't ask, I was very drunk. But it was very colorful the first year or so. Now it's blue.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend a tattoo of say the Celtic Knot. It's a single color and looks striking as a tattoo.
Just my thoughts.
I meant to add a tattoo ups the DUDE factor. That might not help there but it's a THANG if you were to find yourself stranded in Alabama and started hearing Banjos.

Do it! How 'bout a tattoo of a guy pushing a lawnmower on top of your bald head? :)
ReplyDeleteI don't care what other people do, but I can think of more fun ways to get Hepatitis C.
ReplyDeleteAny of those images could be worn on a t-shirt. I do not think they are tattoo worthy...for a cranky old man!!! Your bare arms are beautiful without the ink!
ReplyDeleteWhy not? My dad got his first tattoo at 70. As for what - that I couldn't say. :)
ReplyDeleteFirst get the image on a piece of soft paper, scrunch it up then smooth it out. If you still like the way it looks, which it will when your arms eventually sag and wrinkle, go ahead.
ReplyDeleteFor my first one, I went with something small and plain that could be easily covered by clothing, in case I hated it later.
ReplyDeleteThree more tattoos later, and I am currently saving for number 5. If I had the money, I'd probably have 3/4 sleeves (to just past the elbow instead of the full arm). it's addictive when you realize it doesn't really hurt that much...
Personally, I'm not a big fan of the tats. . .
ReplyDeleteBut hey, you're already old, so you've got the whole, "What's it gonna look like when you're old and saggy?" thing covered. . .
Cranky old man Walter, for sure.
ReplyDeleteYou know you can get temporary tattoos.
ReplyDeleteIf Mrs. Cranky has no objections to a tattoo and if you want one, I say go for it, no matter what your age. Yosemite Sam could be a good one. I wanted to get a tattoo on my right shoulder to commemorate the birth of a little baby of a dear friend that I got to witness the baby being born. Hubby was against tattoos so I respected his wishes....however.....if he goes before me and I'm still young......
ReplyDeletebetty
Absolutely you should get one and I'd go with Yosemite just because he's cool and so are you. :D
