TWEET THIS!

TWEET THIS!
I have a Twitter account.  I’m not sure why.  I thought it was just the thing to do.  I even tweeted a tweet or two.  No one seemed to care.  Why would they or should they.  I have not visited my account in months.  I would have to guess at my password.

I don’t get Twitter.  Why does anyone follow a Kardashian, or a Trump?

If someone famous has anything worth reading, it will be in the news, why bother to follow?  If you follow a movie star, how many people do you follow?  If people read every tweet from everyone they follow, do they have time to do anything else?

Please do not try to explain it to me, I really don’t care.  If you like Twitter, have at it.  Apparently, the newest thing is Instagram anyway.  Don’t explain that to me either.

My real reason for talking about Twitter is the ridiculous way the news uses Twitter.

I recently read a story where McDonalds in Australia advertised a McPickleburger as an April Fools joke.  The news claimed that Twitter exploded with people who wanted a McPickleburger and were pissed when it turned out to be a joke.

Paleeze!  Twitter is not an accurate poll of how people really feel.  If the people who tweet opinions on a McPickleburger are anything like the people who comment on news stories, these are not normal people.  They are lonely angry people who have no friends so they turn to the internet to feel like anyone gives a flying poop about what they think.  Unfortunately, the media, grasping for stories often does give these basement dwellers a voice.

When any famous person makes a statement of any kind on any subject, the statement will be tweeted on.

This is how the media reports on it:

Charlie Smoot, CEO of “FRIZ THIS” just tweeted, “Our new Frizbee is ‘The Bomb’!”  Twitter exploded with comments that the tweet was in poor taste:

BasementBob99 to SmootFriz1 “OMG dude this is sooo offensive.”

IMAFENDED202 to SmootFriz1 “The bomb?  Really, my uncle was killed by a bomb!”

JACKAS12 to SmootFriz1 “I will never buy another Frizbee from your company…BOMB THAT!”

Smoot deleted the Tweet minutes after it was posted, but it was too late.

There were some people did not find the tweet offensive:

Unemployed77 to SmootFriz1 “I like your Frizbee, bomb or not, LOL.”

Who are these people?  Why does the media care?

Maybe it is because they don’t have to take polls on their own or interview real people, they just go on Twitter and cherry pick tweets that will fit their agenda.

My suggestion…STOP WITH THE TWEETS!!

RT - Yes, I know the President tweets all the time, and yes, I know that some of you hate the President…that has nothing to do with this post!  If you have a political point to make, tweet it.  I don’t care one way or the other.

  1. It took me about 3yrs to understand Facebook and I'm still not sure I know how to do that correctly.

  2. I have an account, but only use it to keep current on 'fake news' and pop culture. Today I learned that skincare fridges are a thing. But I do love Instagram. Pretty pictures!

  3. I don't have an account, and don't know anything except that characters are limited. Every now and then I watch "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets" on YouTube.

  4. No tweeting here, i really wouldn't have time to do anything else if i added that to the list.

  5. In my opinion, twittering should be left to the birds.

  6. I just don't have time to Twitter or Pinterest. I joined Instagram in December and I'm thinking that was a mistake but I do like some of the recipes I have found for it. I also found on Instagram a lot of men looking to hook up with women. I found that out early on when I had an account that wasn't private (I learned later to make it private and therefore could approve or disapprove those who wanted to follow me). I quickly learned not to approve men (not that I have anything against men but if I don't know them, I didn't approve them). They seemed to always want to send messages to me that intimidated they wanted to start a relationship with me.

I can't see myself ever getting into Twitter. Again, so much social media and so little time. Besides, I couldn't keep anything I say to 140 characters or less.

Totally or somewhat off the subject, the McPickle Apple Fool's joke made me think of an April Fool's joke that I got caught up with when we lived in Billings, Montana. The local paper did a story about white snakes that were coming out of hibernation early on the rims (cliffs on one side of the city). They were telling hikers to be careful watching out for them. We were new to the city. I had the habit of reading the newspaper int he morning with the kids and looking for "human interest" stories to share with them. I shared this story and said I would never want to see any snake yet alone a white snake. The next morning the newspaper said it was an April Fool's joke. The picture they had the day before of white snakes was photo chopped. Got me good!

  7. Is it my imagination or is everything changing on internet and everything else, or is it my age preventing me from understanding? Lately I am being pestered for passwords which I don't know or forgot years back. Even the phone people are demanding I give them a password. I feel like chucking the lot in the bin. I wouldn't dare go back on Facebook or Twitter now!!

  8. Blogging takes up more of my free time than I am comfortable with but I do love doing it. When do people have time to not only tweet but to read all the tweets from people they are interested in? Beats me.

  10. I have a Twitter account, too. I have no idea what I'm doing, too. So I don't do anything, too.

    We're in total agreement.
