YEA or YEAH
Taking a trip on the way-back machine to May 2014
So I’m writing a post and I want to express happiness about something. I write “yeah” then it doesn’t seem correct, so I try “yea.” That didn’t seem right either. I suppose I could Google it, but instead I asked Mrs. Cranky.
“If I want to show happiness, is the word Y-E-A, or Y-E-A-H?”
“Yes.”
“Yes. But is it spelled Y-E-A, or Y-E-A-H.”
“YEAH.”
“Yea?”
“Yes.”
“Yes yea, or yes yeah.”
“Yup.”
“Yup what?”
“Yup yeah.”
“Yup Y-E-A-H or yup Y-E-A?”
“Yup Y-E-A-H.”
“So not Y-E-A.”
“No, Y-E-A is in yea or nay, Y-E-A-H is yeah as in yippee.”
“Maybe I should just say yippee.”
“OK”
“I should Google it.”
I Googled it.
“Which is it?”
“Not Y-E-A or Y-E-A-H.”
“No?”
“Yeah”
“That’s what I said.”
“No, not Y-E-A, that means yes in the affirmative, not Y-E-A-H, that means yup. It should be Y-A-Y…Yay!”
I decided to just write "It makes me happy."
Yay! That's my take.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and week, Joe. 😎
I get the YAY. I don't understand google's difference between YEA or YEAH. Yup means yes, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteYay not yeah. Not sure about yea. I'm not sure I've ever used it.
ReplyDeletebetty
But who's on first?
ReplyDeleteYour potsp always make me laugh...or make me say yeah!
ReplyDeleteI was going to tell you it was Yay but you beat me to it.
ReplyDeleteI've often fought the same battle in my head. I like yay. Think that solved my prpblem.
ReplyDeleteThat is wonderful. Hooray, or is that hurrah!

ReplyDeleteYou could go with woo-hoo! or a dozen smiley faces.
ReplyDeleteI'll stick with YES. I'm confused enough without making it worse....lolololol.
ReplyDeleteYeeeeeehaaaa!
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hum, I always used yea when my team hit a grand slam but now yay (which I had never considered) is looking good. Thanks for the new doubts:)
ReplyDeleteI have no idea.
