I DON’T JUDGE

I DON’T JUDGE

The following is the opinion of a cranky old man with little expertise on the topic opined.  Opposing opinions are welcome but will be ignored.  As always, please, no name calling and that means you, you big stupid-head!

So this ass-hole with mental issues, Dylann Roof goes into a church and murders nine people.  There is typically a call for gun control to stop these kinds of atrocities.  There is typically a call from gun enthusiasts that gun control is a slippery slope to anarchy.

It is all bull shit.  Granted I am in favor of increased gun regulation.  It should be as difficult as possible for an ass-hole like this to ever get a gun, and if you responsible gun owners have to wait a couple of months to get you brand new pistol so what…fuck you.

However, to me, the real problem in this case was not the gun and the fact that it seems this nut job may have been given the gun by his dad (WTF) the problem is this kid’s racist mindset, and the fact that it was accepted and or condoned.  This is a quote from Dylann’s roommate when interviewed:

Dalton Tyler, Roof's roommate, told ABC News that Roof had been

"Planning something like the shooting for six months.

He was big into segregation and other stuff," Tyler said. "He said he wanted to start a civil war. He said he was going to do something like that and then kill himself."

Tyler told The New York Times that he did not take Roof's statements seriously.

"I was just like, 'You’re stupid,'" Mr. Tyler said. "He was a racist; but I don’t judge people."

HEY ROOMMATE…you are either a dumb shit, or as racist as Dylann!!

It is outrageous to me that this clown could have been talking about murdering people and you “DON”T JUDGE”

It is time we do judge.  Most of these lunatics leave some sign or comment either to friends or social media about their intentions.  If we see them, WE SHOULD FUCKING JUDGE!  Point it out to authorities and let them decide if the person is just talking or is a threat.

Talking about murder is a crime.  I believe it is called assault.  If you hear it, report it before it is followed by BATTERY.

Dylann is a racist, he is a murderer and he should never see the sun again.  Let him spend the rest of his life with other menaces to society, some who may take a personal affront to Dylann’s racist disease.

While we cluck-cluck our distaste for this cretin, we need to look to ourselves.  Are we a little responsible for allowing these racist opinions to thrive?  Do you secretly dislike black people?  Do you blame all white people for your problems? Do you hate anyone who does not worship your God? Are you so involved in your own personal causes from the environment to the economy to the issue of choice that you would condone murder or even talk of murder?

Guns are an issue and they need to be addressed.  Gun regulation needs to be tightened up, but the real problem is, attitudes, and people that

“Don’t judge!”

Tyler told The New York Times that he did not take Roof's statements seriously.

"I was just like, 'You’re stupid,'" Mr. Tyler said. "He was a racist; but I don’t judge people."

We need to start taking all hate speech and actions seriously.

We need to judge.

The following was the opinion of a cranky old man, and not necessarily that of management...Mrs. Cranky.

  1. So true that we need to judge. We need to take seriously when someone makes statements and keep the guns away from them. I can only hope he doesn't ever see the outside of a prison this side of eternity.

  3. Ironic in a way, but you have to blame the PC mentality that permeates our culture for this roommate's lack of 'judging.'

  4. Cranky, I just don't know. So what if we judge; it would take a tidal wave of judgement to put such cretins back under their rocks. In the meantime, who are we to tell when we do judge? The police? They have enough responsibility. I think the answer taking away the guns. It has to be much harder to be a murderous, racist bigot with weapons no more lethal than rocks and sticks.

    1. Sorry Joanne, but I must respectfully disagree. The tiny bit of information you might be able to offer the police might be the missing puzzle piece that will enable them to stop a horrendous crime in the first place. And while it might sound good to say we need to "take away the guns", that will NEVER happen. It just isn't realistic. There are too many out there....estimated to be somewhere between 200-300- MILLION. Instead, IMHO we need to concentrate our efforts on identifying the few hundred thousand (?) nuts like this Roof guy and separate HIM from HIS guns. That avenue might, just might have a chance to succeed.

  6. Excellent post Cranky. I have and am proficient with firearms, and every one was purchased with a background check done on me. I personally have no problem with that. While it wouldn't be the "end all", it would be a good start. And with the data bases that exist today, it wouldn't take weeks or months, but only hours. I don't see that as a terrible inconvenience.

Here's my beef with the gun controllers: Every time something horrendous happens they start yelling for more gun control, then whine when they are thwarted by the NRA, the knuckle draggers, etc. WE DON'T NEED NEW GUN CONTROL LAWS! We have laws already on the books that are NOT being enforced.

Example: Years ago there was an effort (somewhere in Virginia I believe it was) to investigate every person from that time forward arrested for a crime to see if they were prior felons ineligible to have a firearm, and if they were illegally in possession of a gun, then charge them with additional federal firearms violations. Problem was, its success overwhelmed the system, and took up too many prison beds. Turned out those wanting to get guns off the streets were the very same people who bemoaned the fact that too many people were in jail and that we weren't doing enough to make them productive citizens. "Incarceration" wasn't the answer, they said.

    DOH!

    1. There are simple solutions to almost every problem in the world, social or economic. Implementation is the bitch.

  7. It's so sad to think that someone that young is so filled with hate. How could his father have given him a gun - he must have had some idea of his son's instability. We own guns but I have no problem with background checks or waiting for the research to go through.

  8. I agree, and i think we need to look at the parents, if they raised this kid, to see how far the apple has fallen from the tree. Guns should also be much harder to get.

  9. Hi Cranky Man,

I am perplexed by the US and its attitude to guns. There seem to be more and more of these atrocities in the US and every time there is an outpouring of outrage about guns control.

Yet nothing is ever done about it.

I simply don't understand. I live in a country where gun crime is rare because our gun control laws are so tight that it is almost impossible to get one. ANd the result is that gun crime in the UK is amongst the lowest in the entire world.

    Surely that says something.

I simply do not understand why you guys have such a problem tightening your laws based on outrage from the gun lobby at removing the right to bear arms.

How many more murders do you have to have?

    Cheers

Hi, but I think you have this sort of backwards.

There seems to be more and more need for outpouring of outrage about gun control and therefore, the media insists on reporting more and more of these types of crimes, making them into national news headlines.

It's not true there are more of these crimes. If we didn't eat it up like a fat kid eats cake, then the media would find other things to throw at us, like abortion, gay rights, taxes, and anything else that will get one group of people outraged at the other group of people.

It's why people like me have become indifferent. Want us to care about something, get some real work done about it. Get your feet on the ground, do some volunteer work in the neighborhoods, hit the streets and give a little of your time. Oh, too busy? Then STFU about it. You know?

  10. Hubby and I are both retired law enforcement. Guns aren't the problem. Mental Health is the problem. We used to deal with folks that were not mentally sound and now most of them are roaming the streets with an occasional trip to jail. I know because I saw this happening. The jails were the mental health wards and this is not appropriate. They really aren't equipped to deal with these issues.

As for judging I think that's being done already. The left judges everyone that believe differently than they do as racist, ignorant, tea party members, and the list of judgmental names goes on and on. All you have to do is pay attention. So judging is done, but only where they deem judging is concerned. The world has gone crazy.

Gun control won't work. You'll have only the bad guys with guns and that is a horrible thought. That includes the government too. Scary.

So what is happening now where gun and ammunition is concerned? The sales are going to go through the roof. Prices are going to go sky high and ammunition, which has been in short supply, will continue scarce or unavailable. The federal administration is the best gun and ammunition salespeople that America has.

Have a fabulous day and this is a very thought provoking post. ☺

  11. I'm totally with you on this one, with the little exception that I'd like the 2nd amendment repealed.
And i see you have apologists for the 'do nothing' group, I guess they should be included, first amendment and all that.
I think you're right on about judging, and it seems incomprehensible his 'friends' would listen to his rants and 'not judge'.....unless they happen to think the same as he does, which I don't rule out.
    Excellent post, Joeh. Nice goin'.

  12. You are welcome to be a racist and have such horrible opinions, that's free speech. You are not welcome to threaten people. That speech is not protected.

And you are most certainly not welcome to have such opinions around me, i will leave or you will.

  13. Be careful. If you keep up this rhetoric, you might end up being me. Bijoux is absolutely correct. Anyone who doesn't believe her is a big stupid-head!

  14. Excellent, thought provoking commentary, and that includes all the reader opinions. I hate guns but I don't know what the solution would be.
I do know that in the past parents have called and called to plead for help for their sick children and got nothing. I think the guy who shot Gabby Giffords is one example. I guess the system just can't handle everything. But we should judge - and report it all.

  16. This hit a little closer to home for me than the other shootings that have happened. We used to live in Lexington, South Carolina, where this evil character lived. We used to hang out at the mall where he was arrested...twice..., once with drugs in his car after asking suspicious questions, once after trespassing.

Yes, we should start judging. It's too late to start judging this evil person. Maybe we should start now with his father who have him the gun. Isn't it illegal to get a gun for a person who's been arrested...twice? Why has the father not been arrested?

  17. I was thinking the same thing when I read the comment from the roommate. He had been planning this for a while and you didn't say anything??!! WTF is wrong with you? I hope the roommate and his father get charged. They could have prevented this.

  18. Cranky, you have written a very important piece here, and I thank you. We have ridiculously more gun violence than other developed nations, our gun laws are much looser, and the politicians are either owned or intimidated by the NRA. The roommate had evidence of one man's plan. The rest of us can see the inevitability of this kind of thing happening again and again, for whatever "reason" is given. As you say, we all need to speak up.
