If You Treat Me Like An Idiot, I will not Disappoint

If You Treat Me Like An Idiot, I will not Disappoint
Why is it that people with crap jobs feel the need to treat their customers like they are idiots?  OK, Don’t think I am a snob talking about crap jobs, I've had many crap jobs back in the day.  I dug holes, painted walls, sold stuff, mopped vomit, burned boxes, and made deliveries.  I never treated others like they were idiots.
Today I stopped at the local WaWa for gas.  The pumps were all full, but I was in no hurry.  I pulled behind a small truck that seemed to almost be gassed up, when the gas attendant started waving and pointing and gesticulating at me.
I had no idea what he wanted.
He apparently decided that he could make me understand by waving and pointing and gesticulating harder.
I still had no idea what he wanted.
He decided that he could make me understand by waving and pointing and gesticulating even harder.
I finally rolled down the window, and asked,
“Am I doing something wrong? Is this lane alright?”
He answered in his best sarcastic little prick kind of way,
“Well, you can stay here if you really want, but there is no one in the truck ahead so…it might take a while, your choice.”
I thought to myself,
“Couldn’t this brain surgeon simply have tapped my window and said, ‘Excuse me sir, the driver in front is inside, he may be a while’.”
Apparently he decided to be a sarcastic prick and waving and pointing and gesticulating should be enough.
So, I decided if he was going to treat me like an idiot, I wouldn’t disappoint him.
“Oh, so if I just stay here it might be a while?”
“It’s up to you.”
“How about that line over there, would that be OK?”
“Yes, you should probably go there.”
“Could you perhaps wave your arms, point and gesticulate?  I’m not so good with words.”
“What?”
“I’m not sure where I should go to find an open pump, if you would just wave and point and gesticulate like you were doing before, perhaps I could figure it out…words confuse me.”
And, the idiot pointed.
Before I pulled out of line, I waved, pointed, and gesticulated that I was going to move.
He just shook his head.
I thought to myself,
“That’s right, I’m an idiot; but you’re the one pumping gas.”

  1. Perhaps he is pumping gas because that's the only job he could get in spite of having university degrees up the wazoo. it's hard to get a job in your chosen field when 50,000 others with the same degree are all applying for the one job. That's why so many over-qualified people are flipping burgers. On the other hand, perhaps he's pumping gas because that's all he knows.

    1. I don't care if you are pumping gas, or curing cancer, if you don;t like your job, don't take it out on others!

  2. Don't these so called helpful people get on your nerves. I would have been tempted to run him down - literally.

  3. He would have really been pointing and waving when I got out and pumped my own gas! Do they expect tips at full service?

  4. Was he a Millennial? They don't have good people skills! Just having to interact with people is like a bee in their bonnet.

  5. Okay there are gas attendants where you live? You don't pump your own gas? I assume this must be NJ and they still have this? So cool. I want this Joe!! I know this made you feel better but your sarcasm was lost on that dimwit and that is the bummer. You can't match wits with those that are unarmed!!!

    1. I don't mean to offend you, but the "dimwit" part seems a bit harsh for a commenter who was only giving an alternate opinion. Not that there's anything wrong with that. You are entitled to your take on others' comments. As am I. Sarcasm is indeed tricky in black and white.

  6. I think I might have found myself another gas station.

    1. This is the only station around here that doesn't ask (YELL AGGRESSIVELY) "Gatch o Chatch?" If you ask "Excuse me?" They simply yell the same thing only louder like you are an idiot.

It turns out that "Gatch o Chatch?" is middle east for "Cash or charge?"

  7. Treating others the way you would want to be treated in that situation hasn't failed me yet, even if others won't do that.

  8. It's a shame, but we get the likes of him round here too.

    God bless.

  9. Sure he was a jerk but he gave you a good post. Sometimes that is the only plus I can get out of a similar situation.

  10. Customer service sure isn't what it used to be. He probably is still puzzled over your reaction to his behavior. I was in an UPS store the other day sending some things back to Amazon and the clerk was really not friendly at all. She seemed like she didn't want to be there, was texting on her phone while waiting for labels to print, was talking to the other clerk in there. I was tempted to write a less than favorable review on Yelp but didn't. I chalked it up in her case that she was very pregnant and it was going to be 110 degrees that day in Phoenix so perhaps that's the best she could do and at least she was working.

  11. You ;probably should have asked the turd for his supervisors name and number. They tend to crawfish when someone puts it back in their lap.

  12. In Ohio we have to pump our own gas but the idiots are the same. You can't cure stupid. I've also had my fair share of crap jobs and now I'm actually doing a job that is all about "crap". I worked in the endoscopy unit last week and did about 70 colonoscopies. However, I feel very compelled to be nice. How could you be mean to someone who just spent a whole day pooping their brains out and then has to have a camera put in where the sun don't shine? Seriously.

  13. Or maybe you were talking about the attendant being the dimwit, and not that first commenter. In which case I agree. So nevermind...since my comprehension skills are not so good in black and white.

    1. I think she meant the attendant was the dimwit.

  14. Hahahaha. I know. It's like they can't be bothered. Like they just woke up this morning and realized they pumped gas. - Speaking of which, don't you miss the full service gas stations??? With the polite attendants or if you're a teenage girl the really hot ones! :D
