C-R-A(cranky old man)N-K-Y(Why because of Disney)K.I.D.S KIDS

C-R-A(cranky old man)N-K-Y(Why because of Disney)K.I.D.S KIDS

The Cranky’s, the Pa. Crank, DIL, and two Crankettes are back from Disney World.  I was actually quite proud of the two Crankettes, in general they were very well behaved.  This was especially true in comparison to the many ultra cranky kids I observed at Disney World.  Don’t let the commercials fool you, 90 % of the children under 7 are miserable at Disney World 90% of the time.

Kids at Disney want and then they want more.  When they don’t get what they want, they whine.  Parents take their children to Disney to watch their smiles and create memories.  They react to the whining and the wanting by giving in and giving in.  The chain reaction to the rewarding of the whining with the giving in is even more whining.  The Disney Corporation takes advantage of this by putting a store at the end of every ride to sell ride related merchandise.

Kids come to Disney with expectations of dancing with Mickey and Donald et al, based on the commercials they see on TV.  If they are lucky, they see the Disney characters in a parade…there will be no dancing with Mickey; this results in more whining.

Parents spend a lot of money getting to and staying at Disney.  To get their money’s worth; they spend from 7 am to 10 pm at the parks.  Surprise, this makes for even more whining by exhausted toddlers.

My DIL was smart and she rationed hours at the park with time at the pool, and time for naps.  I’m not sure about the Crankettes, but I sure took advantage of the nap time.  DIL also made it clear to the Crankettes that there would be no purchases of Disney crap all day long, instead she set aside an hour at the end of one day to shop and she put a limit on purchases.

Another Disney toddler observation was of a child’s capacity for wonderment.  It is about 20 seconds.  We stayed at Animal Kingdom where our backyard mimicked the African Savanna.  There were zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, large exotic birds and multiple types of antelope.  I took the boys to see the zebras and giraffes.  They thought they were really cool…for 20 seconds, and then they wanted mints which were shaped like Mickey.

I also observed how toddlers cannot put anything in perspective and how they live in the moment.  We took them on every ride imaginable.  They saw talking birds, they flew over California and took a truck through Africa where they saw lions, hippos, elephants and much more.  They saw parades with fabulous floats, fireworks and laser light shows that were beyond description.

What caused mini-melt downs?

Whose turn was it to push the elevator button, or unlock the room door with their magic Mickey wrist band.  My son was pretty good at defusing these mini-meltdowns.  He expertly used the ignore and distract method.  Fortunately, a toddler’s capacity to mope over minor disappointment is about as long as their wonderment time frame…about 20 seconds.

All and all, I think the Crankettes had a good time and built a few memories.  I was proud of their behavior, no spoiled brats at the Pa. Crank’s.

The Disneyophiles, Mrs. C and DIL definitely had a good time.

This cranky old man and son of cranky survived, and I will grudgingly admit that I actually enjoyed a good portion of the trip.

Oh, did I mention that I beat my son in the “Toy Story” ride contest…68,800 to 68,700.

SHIT THAT I WORRY ABOUT - a cranky re-run

SHIT THAT I WORRY ABOUT
This cranky re-run is from December 2011

Note, I had a bigger potty mouth in 2011

I shouldn’t read because when I do, I read about stuff I need to worry about.  Lately I keep reading about global warming and climate change.  With a rise of a single degree in the average global temperature all sorts of bad shit is going to happen.  Crops will die, we will have floods, there will be hurricanes, and even snow storms, all caused by global warming.  I worry about so much other stuff I don’t need this to worry about, especially because I don’t know what to do to stop the problem.

I know, I can plant a tree, but the fucking hurricanes will only knock it and others over.  I can drive slower, but some asshole will pass me doing 80 and negate my effort.  I could turn down the heat in the winter, but with the warming I won’t have to so….I don’t know, I am just so confused.  I am confused, and I have so many other things to worry about.

I worry about running out of food.  The population keeps growing taking up space used to grow food and yet we will require more food for the increased population.  When will it end?  I worry.

I worry about running out of water.  Once again, more people need more water and we keep throwing crap into the water making less to drink.  I worry.

I worry about shit in the food we do have.  I watch TV and see shows about bugs, animal shit, dirt and lots of other bad stuff in our processed food.  I worry.

I worry about radar, x-rays, microwaves, radio waves, TV waves, and tidal waves.  All those waves that did not exist 100 years ago zapping through our bodies can’t be good.  I worry.

I worry about poor people.  As the world runs out of stuff, and I still have stuff, I worry about people who don’t have stuff taking my stuff.  If they take my stuff then I will be poor and have to take someone else’s stuff.  I don’t think I would be very good at taking other peoples stuff.  I worry.

I worry about smart people.  Smart people might take my stuff just because they can out-smart me and even though they would not need my stuff because they are smart, they might take it any way because what good is being smart if it does not get you more stuff?  I worry.

I worry about garbage.  More people, more garbage, less space; where are we going to put all that garbage?  Will smart people out-smart me and get me to swap my stuff for garbage?  If they do, I know poor people won’t take the garbage from me.  I don’t want to live in garbage.  I worry.

I worry about the sun burning out.  How long can that sucker keep burning and heating up the planet.  Doesn’t everything eventually burn- out or at least decrease in intensity?  What keeps the sun burning?  How does the sun regulate its heat production?  I guess at least the sun burning out would end global warming.  Now I’m not sure which to worry about.  I worry.

I worry about running out of stuff to blog about.  If this worry shit is the best I can come up with, I’m in trouble.  Where will I find new material?

I worry!
