For no particular reason and in no particular order,
stuff that most people under 50 will not have a clue…maybe the last one.
What
would you add to the list?
“I’ll get
it!”
“Wait till you father gets home”
Putting out empty bottles.
“Children
in China are starving!”
“Here’s Johnny!”
Hand-me-downs.
“The following
show is brought to you in living color.”
“Let’s
go, this is where we came in.”
Slide rulers.
“I’m
coming, I’m coming, hold your horses!”
“If you
don’t stop, you’ll go blind.”
“In or
out, in or out!”
Snow days.
“If you
don’t like it, then fire the cook!”*
“If Danny
jumped off the Empire State Building, would you jump too?”
Fountain pens.
“Change…wait,
go back…never mind, change.”
Heavy
petting.
“Wow,
what a play…you missed it!”
“If it
was a snake it would have bit ya!”*
Penny Loafers.
“You have
to wait an hour, you just ate.”
“Sit
back, you’ll ruin your eyes.”
Sock Hop.
“Because
I said so!”
*Ok, that
might have just been my mom.
I remember these. Every single one of them.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and thanks for the laughs. ☺
Every one Joe, every one. So glad we now never have to miss a play though:)
ReplyDeleteI knew all but the ‘Let’s go, this is where we came in.’
ReplyDeleteHow about the dime in your loafer to call home?
Yep, every one of these except in my house it was jumping off cliffs..I grew up in Chicago. No way would I even thinking of jumping off a big building but a cliff? Well, that might be something my friends would have done!
ReplyDeleteAll of my children are under 50 and all of them remember Hand-me-downs, even the oldest who wore hand me down dresses from three older girl cousins.
ReplyDeleteI remember slide rulers but never did work out why I would need one since I did most calculations in my head anyway. We got shown how to use them and it was quite confusing unless you kept at it.
Yes. Along with, "What if your face froze like that?" In my neck of the woods, Danny jumped off a bridge.
ReplyDeleteI often heard, "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride."
ReplyDeleteIf you continue to sit like that your back will curve that way!
ReplyDeleteTo hell in a hand basket
ReplyDeleteYep, i remember. And by the way, if it was a snake, i wouldn't have been looking for it was the answer.
ReplyDeleteI remember most of them, but slide rule is something I never understood (then and now)
ReplyDeleteCircular slide rule.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Money doesn’t grow on trees was my parents favorite!
ReplyDeleteShut the door. Are you trying to heat the whole outdoors?
ReplyDeletesounds interesting indoor play though totally unfamiliar to me :(
ReplyDeleteblessings and best wishes !
I remember all of those and then some! Bandstand, collect calls, buying shoes with my dad always meant going to an actual shoe store and getting that sliding foot thing done.
