Controlling the Climate

Controlling the Climate

I am not a Global Warming denier, I am a skeptic.  But I am going to throw my skepticism aside and assume scientists are correct.  The planet is getting warmer and it is the fault of…US.  We burn stuff creating carbon dioxide, we breathe in oxygen and breath out even more carbon dioxide, we fart  methane, and we breed animals for food, the animals fart even more methane.

Carbon dioxide and methane trap heat and are responsible for global warming.

What to do, what to do.

The scientists tell us all our burning, breathing and farting will increase the earth’s temperature three degrees in the next 100 years, which among other things will melt the polar ice caps and flood half the world.  The same scientists also tell us that if we reduce burning, breathing and farting to levels seen years ago, we can stop the warming by .001 degrees.

We are screwed.

We could go back to living like we did before we discovered fire, and by we I mean everyone, all people, all countries…not likely.

Science and technology got us into this problem.  Internal combustion engines, electricity and power plants are responsible for our dilemma, only science and technology will get us out of the dilemma. We are hooked on power, hooked on heat, hooked on transportation.

Let’s put our money into technology.

Plants take in carbon dioxide and turn it into energy, oxygen and water.  I’ll bet really smart people can invent a way to do the same thing.

No?

Here is an article where some really smart people have figured a way to absorb methane and use it to power engines:

There are solutions other than making everyone feel guilty for driving cars and heating their homes.

Better mileage and cleaner burning engines…good idea.

Wind power…nice, but those windmills are chopping birds in half, not real nice.

Solar power…great stuff, make it better use it more.

These are all good, but not enough according to all the scientists predicting catastrophe.  We need to do more; we need to think out of the box.  Conservation will not work.  Let’s do more.

Let’s invent stuff to use and reduce the bad gasses.  We could put a man on the moon; we ought to be able to imitate a tree.

Let’s hear it for really smart people!

It’s The Principle

It’s The Principle
Add this to the long list of stuff I don’t understand about women.  I am guessing that guys will shake their heads along with me, and the women will give me an earful, but here it goes.

What is up with women and their distaste for ever repeating themselves?

Yesterday I saw a package on the counter.  We have been waiting days for delivery of new water filters for the refrigerator so I thought, “Are these finally the water filters?”
As long as I was thinking that, I asked Mrs. C, “What is in the package.”

It turns out the package held some special plastic containers she had recently ordered and apparently she had also recently told me about said package.  In response to my question she could have responded,

“Those are the meat wrapping things I ordered.”

Or.

“Those are the meat wrapping things I ordered, I already told you that.”

Or even,

“Those are the meat wrapping things I ordered, you asked me that yesterday and I already told you…How many times do I have to tell you?”

But no, she has to answer this way,

“I already told you that.”

“What did you tell me?”

“What is in the package.”

“Well, what is in the package?”

“I already told you that.”

“Ok, could you just tell me again?”

“I shouldn’t have to.”

“Well apparently you do, or should I just open it up to find out?”

“Don’t open it up.”

“Well just tell me what is in the package, is it the water filters?”

“No.”

“What is it?”

“I shouldn’t have to tell you.”

“Just tell me for crying out loud.”

“Those are the meat wrapping things I ordered”

“Oh yeah, I remember now.  Why couldn’t you just tell me that in the first place?”

“It’s the principle!”

“Well the principle just took ten minutes of my life I’ll never get back.”

“You're a Jerk!”

DOPPELGANGERS

DOPPELGANGERS
Do you have a doppelganger, someone who could be your twin?  They say everyone has a doppelganger.  Sometimes your doppelganger only looks like you to others.  When you see him, not so much.  Sometimes it is just a single facial feature that makes a resemblance.

I have been told I look just like former Governor of New Jersey Jon Corzine.

Ex-New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine

I don’t see it.

Mrs. Cranky’s doppelganger was spotted on the internet from an old photo that was going around.

It was said to be a woman screaming, but it is actually a woman sneezing.  From her dress I think the picture probably is from the nineteen tens.  Mrs. Cranky has a knowledge of many thing that for her age she should not know; famous people, songs, movies…stuff like that.  I have claimed that she must be reincarnated from another time.

Mrs. C?

Perhaps her doppelganger is really that person?

My once a year fishing buddy Catfish just retired.
Catfish
Or is he actually the star of TV’s “River Monsters”?

Jeremy Wade, or Catfish?

Recently I read an article about a multi-billionaire investor.  His picture looks very much like my old friend Frog.  I double checked with Frog, and he assured me he is worth considerably less than a billion dollars.
