BLOGGING IS FOR THE YOUNG - another cranky re-run

BLOGGING IS FOR THE YOUNG
Counting various blog hop re-winds, this is the forth time around for this post....What, are there rules?  I like this one so suck it up and skip it if you have already read it!

I am beginning to thing that I am too old to blog.  Not that I am incapable of blogging, but my demography does not lend itself to an active viewership.  Old people read books and newspapers.  They only grudgingly use computers.  In fact computers make old people angry.

I try to get my generation of older friends interested in my blog and they act as if finding and reading a blog is rocket science.  Mind you, many of these people are still active and successful lawyers, engineers and captains of industry.  They are so successful that they have other people do their computer shit.  The fact that they even read and use email is a surprise to me.

I tried to get my fellow seniors to follow my blog via Facebook.  You would think I was asking them to join the communist party.

Their typical response was, “I don’t do Facebook or any other intrusive social network thing.”

“O. K.  How about I email the link to you?”

“I got the link, what do I do with it?”

“Double click the link.”

“Huh?”

“Take your mouse, left click twice very fast and the link will appear so you can read my blog.  Then save it to your favorites and check it periodically.”

“Huh?”

“Never mind, just go buy out that silly conglomerate, sell off the underperforming units, take the new entity public, unload the new stock at an inflated price and make about 50 fucking million dollars, but YOU CAN”T FIGURE OUT HOW TO VIEW MY FREAKING BLOG????  And if you do manage to find it could you manage to click one fucking ad so I can make 35 cents?  Thank you.

The rest of my demographic does not read.  I am not afraid of insulting them when I say this, BECAUSE THEY DO NOT READ!  To these cretins, the internet is for porn, the sports page is for reading.

When your friends and relatives are ruled out as followers, I am left with a smattering of Moms (Mums across the Ocean, I hate that across the POND shit).  I love this group, and some of their blogs are funnier than all blazes but much of what is in my head is foreign to them.

In order to get closer to my only demographic I am going to baby sit my Pennsylvania son’s toddlers once a week this fall.  I am going to gain 20 pounds of belly to empathize with the pregnancy experience, and I am thinking of turning gay so I can understand how really horrible men are.

OK that’s a bad idea; I’ll just make believe I know what the women are talking about.

I will keep trying, but I am beginning to think I am just too old to blog.

BLOGGING FOR PROFIT

BLOGGING FOR PROFIT

I am trying to figure out how to make money on my blog.  So far I have come up with nothing.  The problem is no one seems to have any interest in a blog that has 27 hits per day.  This is even more of a problem when 17 of those hits are from Google on the search term “Old man gay.”  If advertisers won’t come to me, maybe I will just have to plug for free.  The following is an unsolicited plug for:

OHANA GRILL IN LAVALETTE NEW JERSEY

Last week we tried a new restaurant at The Shore; Ohana Grill.  This is a very small restaurant, maybe 12 tables, so reservations are recommended.

The reviews on “yelp.com” were mixed.  One review was so bad it was remarkable.  Chris F. wrote a book on how awful this restaurant was.  His complaint went from the waiter not pouring his wine to overcooked steak and fish which made him sick.  I often suspect some restaurant reviews are faked to either bring people in, or keep people away.  Chris took so much time complaining that I took a chance that he was the latter and made a reservation.

I do not remember if the waiter poured the wine or not, I can’t remember if any restaurant pours from a BYOB.  Obviously I am not as sophisticated and discerning as Chris F.  I do remember that the calamari was the best I have ever had and I loved the tangy Asian influenced sauce.  The steamed clams were delicious.  Chris F. did not like the broth; he found it to be salty.  Imagine that salty clam broth!  Our table had several different entrees.  All the fish was fresh and cooked perfectly.  Maybe Chris F. felt sick because he drank the salty broth.  Mostly I think he was from the Ohana’s competition.

The food at Ohana was delicious, the flavors unique and the service excellent.  I highly recommend this establishment.  Make a reservation, go, enjoy, and tell Chris F. to F*** OFF!

Tell them the “Cranky Old Man” sent you!  Maybe I can cop a free meal.

If not, I will be back anyway.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

I try to keep politics out of this blog because it just tends to divide people.  In this day and age most people are polarized by political affiliations and they are apt to either agree with or get angry about political comments.

I don’t wish to foster agreement or anger in my readers.  I also feel I am old enough to let the young people duke it out over their future leaders.  The window for politics affecting my life is fairly narrow.  For those that care, I have made my positions clear; I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

I do feel the need however to question the current race for our President and the qualifications for this office.

It seems that Mr. Romney is being put down as a Presidential candidate because he has apparently been a successful businessman. He is out of touch with the American people.  He is greedy.

Apparently the argument goes that rich out of touch greedy people want to become President so they can become even wealthier, advance the wealth of their good friends and choose to do so by stomping on the necks of the poor.

Can Mr. Romney really get any wealthier?  Do his friends really need any more money?  I sincerely doubt that his run for the Presidency is to become wealthier than he currently is.

One of the biggest issues in any Presidential campaign is the economy.  Former President Clinton summed it up the best when he said, “It’s the economy stupid!”  Why is being a successful businessman a negative for someone who would have so much to say about our economy?  Should we elect a business failure to run the economy?  When professional sports executives choose their team, they tend to pick from successful athletes, not ordinary slubs who are in touch with uncoordinated athletes who suck.

President Obama has been portrayed as an economic neophyte out of touch with what makes our financial markets run and is out to dismantle and ruin our capitalist system.  As Theresa of RHWONJ* would say (oops there goes all my credibility) “Are you kidding me?”

I don’t think successful Presidential candidates run for office to enrich themselves or their friends.  Anyone capable of becoming President is already rich or is capable of amassing a huge fortune by taking a much easier road to success.  I very much doubt that many people seek this high office in order to gleefully watch less successful people suffer and starve.

I truly believe that those who seek the Presidency, including our current President and Mr. Romney, desire to run this country because they believe they can improve the lot of all our citizens along with enhancing and defending this wonderful country.

One of our candidates is the most qualified and has the best ideas to accomplish the above noble goals.  It is up to the voters to decide which candidate that is.

I am not sure who I will be voting for, but when I do decide I will be making the following assumptions:

President Obama does not want to turn our political system into communism where he is the supreme ruler who will confiscate all property and distribute it however he chooses.

He would like disadvantaged citizens to have the opportunity to become advantaged citizens.  He wants our country to be safe.  He wants our laws to treat everyone as equals.  He wants to be liked and respected by the world.  He wants history to remember him as a successful, fair and great president.

Mr. Romney does not want to become a murderous power hungry dictator who will suspend our laws as we know them to enhance his personal wealth.

He would like disadvantaged citizens to have the opportunity to become advantaged citizens.  He wants our country to be safe.  He wants our laws to treat everyone as equals.  He wants to be liked and respected by the world.  He wants history to remember him as a successful, fair and great president.

Please cast your vote based on whose philosophy and ideas you believe can best accomplish their admirable goals.
