A Serious Face

A Serious Face
Do you have a serious face?

I just realized that I do not have a serious face.  I try, but I can not pull it off.  It has affected my life in many ways.  At work, if I had a good idea it was not given full attention because it was not delivered with a serious face.  I was not very good at disciplining my children because I did not have a serious face.

I don’t even know how to fake a serious face.  When I try and get serious, something almost always cracks me up and I have to hide a smile.  Hiding a smile ruins any attempt at a serious face.
I could be an expert on negotiating and on International relationships, but I could not sit down with a Kim Jon Un…one look at that haircut and I would lose my serious face.  His fat body would make me laugh, I would lead us right into war because I do not have a serious face.
I like politics, but I don’t have a serious face.
Very important for a politician to have a serious face
How could you get people to vote for you if you don’t look serious?  I could not be a doctor; how do you give a patient bad news if you do not have a serious face?  Hell, even comedians use a serious face to set up most of their jokes.
Even comedians need to be serious sometimes
When I was called on in school for an answer, I often chose a goofy reply instead of the correct answer because, hell I don’t know, I just have a hard time being serious.
Have you ever watched a skilled musician?  Even thought they are enjoying what they do, they still have a serious face.

I have not been particularly successful in any facet of life, work, relationships, whatever.  It may be for a lack of any skill, or intelligence, or work ethic.  I think it is the result of only one thing, I may be cranky but...
I don’t have a serious face.
No...Seriously, I don't!

  1. I don't have a serious face either. My brother does, and has a nature to match, most things are taken literally unless you've already been making jokes for awhile, then he gets it. I know some people who are so serious you can make jokes with them or even tell of jokes you've heard, because they just don't get it. Everything said is taken seriously.

  2. This requires some serious thought. I will look in the mirror to check the face but I shall probably burst out laughing.

  3. I must have a serious face because I've often been told I could play the straight man in a comedy routine.

  4. Having a serious face is overrated.

Life's too short to worry about being taken seriously by other people.

  5. Like River said some people take everything literally even when you are joking with them, and they usually have a serious face, except for the ones who just don't get anything and their face is always more confused looking than anything else...

Cindy's dad has a serious face and a more literal demeanor, as for myself I don't think that I am ever taken seriously so I venture to say that I don't have a serious face either.

  7. I feel your pain but am smiling while I write that. Join the club Joe. We may have more laugh lines but none of those darn worry lines to mar our faces. Consider it a plus, I do.

Have a fabulous day and weekend, Joe. ☺

  9. I saw BB King in concert once. There was no denying his immense skill, but his face betrayed how much fun he was having. . .

  10. I've been told I was a very quiet and serious baby. So much so, my grandmother swore I was suffering from migraine headaches. (Personally, I think I was working out some differential equations...) A lot of the pictures taken of me as a child show a pretty serious face, too. But now? Not so much. I think I used up all of my serious a long time ago.

  11. It is a handicap, i don’t have a serious face either. That’s wjy i could never teach any but very small children. By the time they hit 3rd grade, you have to have a serious face or they won’t listen.

  12. As a teacher for 28 years, I HAD TO HAVE a serious face. Though kids often referred to it as "the stink-eye." My serious face mostly consists of raising my left eyebrow (can't do the right one) as if silently asking, "REALLY?" It worked 95% of the time. Kids stayed out of trouble, and we didn't have to engage in a battle of wills.

  16. I wonder if people have a hard time interpreting my face. I had to attend a mediation meeting at work one time (two other employees were having issues with each other, not me) and the mediator, as I sat down, said something about not ever wanting to play poker with me. Hahahaha.
