You Didn’t See That Did You?

You Didn’t See That Did You?
Oops!!
Years ago we had a huge tree in our back yard.  The tree had a limb ten feet off the ground that went straight out from the main trunk about 15 yards to another tree.  The squirrels used this limb to race from tree to tree.  One year we had a storm and the limb broke about five yards out from the tree.
The day after the limb came down I was watching a squirrel from the kitchen window.  The squirrel ran up the tree and at full speed over the limb which no longer reached his desired location.  The squirrel ran right off the limb and fell with a splat on the ground.  He was a bit shaken up and slowly got to his feet.  As God is my witness I swear he then looked left, right and straight up to see if any other squirrel saw him fall.
Tonight I had a similar squirrelly moment.
I have two pairs of glasses which I need when watching TV, but not for reading.  One pair I had broken when I sat on them.  I then got a new pair which Mrs. C picked out but when I got them home she didn’t like them.
“They look like Bono glasses, and I don’t like Bono.”
I like the Bono glasses for outside because they turn into sunglasses when it is light out.  Mrs. C decided I could wear them everywhere except in bed.  She did not want to see the Bono glasses when we were in bed watching TV.
She used some miracle five second glue stuff and fixed the old glasses…she’s really good like that, and now I have a pair of upstairs glasses and a pair of downstairs and outside glasses.
When I am watching TV and also on the computer, I am in the habit or shifting the glasses from my eyes to the top of my head as needed.
Tonight I was watching TV upstairs.  Mrs. C was at work.  When she came home she needed me to move my car and help her bring some stuff in.  I moved the car with my upstairs glasses on.
Once back inside I sat at the kitchen table to talk with Mrs. C as she had a late dinner and I had a snack.
While eating my snack I moved my upstairs glasses to the top of the head position.  Mrs. C then turned on the TV to watch "Dancing With The Stars."  I then grabbed my downstairs glasses and put them on to watch the show.  In doing this I knocked my upstairs glasses off my head and I grabbed for them before they hit the floor, then I tried to put my upstairs glasses on over my downstairs glasses.
That was my squirrely moment.  I quickly looked left and right to make sure Mrs. C did not see what I did.  She didn’t, but the look on my face gave away that I did something silly so I had to tell her.
Now you know too.  It’s OK, I’ll bet I’m not the only senior citizen to have a squirrely moment.

  1. I have glasses for driving and glasses for reading. Sometimes I leave my reading glasses on top of my head and then get in the car and put my driving glasses on too. My kids slide as far down into the seats as they can.. It happens.

  2. We all have them moments. I keep reading glasses every where in the house and the vehicle in case.

  3. LOL, I had a senior moment today when I couldn't remember what I did yesterday before I started work. It was a change from my normal routine, but it took me most of the day to remember it :)

I'm glad I have one pair of glasses for all purposes :)

  4. I had a similar squirrely moment years ago. Couldn't find my glasses and finally spotted a pink framed pair on the table. Thinking they were mine I picked them up to put on only to find my glasses were already on my face and I was trying to put on K's very similar frames.

  5. Have you ever "lost" your cell phone & called it (on your cell phone) so you could hear the ring & find it?

  6. My second name must be squirrel although not where glasses are concerned. I am down to one pair after a few years of having two or three.

(Yes to fishducky, I do it all the time)

  8. I can guarantee you're not the only senior to have a squirrely moment. I have them several times a day. And sometimes if I'm having a really good day I have more than several.

Have a fabulous day Joe. ☺

  10. The older I get the more frequent my squirrely moments occur. Now if you were a cat, you would quickly adopt the haughty "I meant to do that" look. I'm working on that expression.

  11. More than once I've stepped into the shower and wondered what was different---I hadn't taken off my glasses.

  12. I really like your squirrel story. I'm always amazed by how well squirrels can take a terrible tumble and keep going. That might have been what he was doing: he might not have been embarrassed. He might have been seeing whether he had anyone who could back him up when he bragged about it!

  15. Well, at least you did the silly thing with your glasses and not the silly thing on the tree!

  16. That's actually pretty tame. My squirrely moments usually involve full blown crash and burn "Breaking News" events. Wanna trade? :)

  17. I have glasses like you have scissors! A pair in the kitchen, two in the living room, and one down in my dark basement lair. I keep meaning to take one of the living room glasses to the car. They are various prescriptions, since I never throw old glasses away. Maybe I should take the newest ones to the car...
