WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO PICK THAT UP?

WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO PICK THAT UP?
This cranky re-run is from April 2013
The other day I was in the kitchen with Mrs. Cranky.  Now keep in mind, I do my share of work around the Cranky house.  I vacuum, I sweep, I am the bathroom cleaner, I do the dishes and I empty the dishwasher.  I am the grill master. I don’t do windows.  Anyway, the other day I am in the kitchen with Mrs. Cranky and she says to me:

“When are you going to pick that up?”

“Pick what up?”

“Look at your feet.”

“Yeah!”

Don’t you see that?”

“See what.”

“Oh my God…LOOK, right by your feet!”

I look down at my feet and sure enough there is a gubba*

“When are you going to pick that up?  It’s been there for three days?”

“Well if you have been seeing it for three days, why didn’t you pick it up?”

“Because I wanted to see how long you would just keep stepping over it and never pick it up!”

“But, if I didn’t see it how would I pick it up?  What is worse, my not seeing it or you seeing it and waiting for me to pick it up?”

“How could you NOT see it!?**

“How could you see it and NOT pick it up!?”

Cause I wanted to see how long it would take for you to see it!”

“Well now you still don’t know cause you pointed it out to me.”

“Well are you going to pick it up?”

“You saw it first, you pick it up!”

“But it’s your mess!”

“How do you know it’s my mess?”

“Because if I drop something I know it!”

“Except when you drop something and you don’t know it.”

“You’re a jerk!”

The Gubba remains today in that same spot on the kitchen floor.  No one will pick it up.  Yesterday Mrs. C vacuumed around it.  This summer the ants will probably clean it up…that is if it is something edible.

I don’t know what it is…it’s a Gubba!

*Gubba – any tiny stupid unidentified thing which serves no apparent purpose is a “Gubba.”

**!? – Emphatic question.

  1. Pick up the gubba.

Guys do that step-over thing so often, we KNOW you're the ones who dropped the gubba. That's what drives us to wait and see how long you're going to deny the obvious.

  2. That's why it's so useful having a teenager in the house (a phrase I thought I'd never utter!!) - ALL the gubbas are dropped by them (even when they aren't).

    1. That's like when Grandma farts, blame the dog!!

  3. I find it hard to believe that something can stay in the same spot on the floor for three days in a house where both adults do their fair share of the housework.

  4. Go on, pick it up... life's too short. Can't help but smile, though, you and Mrs C are real a comedy act but I bet it doesn't feel like it at times.

  5. That is too funny. You have got to get a reality show deal. For now you need a cat. The cat will eat a gubba if edible or bat it under the couch if not.

  6. When i drop a gubba, i pick it up. Sweetie doesn't notice what he drops, but he sweeps up everything in his path when he has the broom, so he gets them anyway. It works out.

  7. Your house is such an interesting place. Do you two keep score or anything? Just wondering.

Have a fabulous day and let us know how long this Gubba hangs around. ☺

  8. I'm the queen of the DustBuster. If you drop gubba, expect to hear the sound of the DustBuster during your favorite show.

  9. Unfortunately, I must plead guilty!

  10. We have similar discussions. The best way to deal with "Gubbas" is to get a dog. A dog will keep your kitchen floor free of food bits.

  11. Don't make me have to come up there and separate y'all :)

  12. You'd make an excellent writer for TV comedy shows.

They did an entire "Everybody Loves Raymond" episode on this, except it wasn't a gubba; it was a suitcase.

  13. This reminded me of the time my sister in law left a Lego in plain view in the middle of the floor, wondering how long it would take her then young children to pick it up and put it away. It was there for months; I think she gave up and finally picked it up and put it away.

  14. This is most definitely a classic spousal debate. It's one of those chicken and egg debates and it will never be resolved. I suspect that bubba will indeed stay there until it disintegrates... or until someone cleans it up when not being watched and then claims innocence. ;-)

  15. Hahahaha. Wow.. Having had this same experience. I really have to side with you on this one Joe. Seriously. Unless you can call it when it happens, whoever sees it first should pick it up. If Mrs. C saw you drop it and brought it to your attention right then and there, then thats on you. Waiting? Yeah.. No. - Lol.. Make note. This may be the one and only time I go against Mrs. C.
