RESTROOM RULES

RESTROOM RULES
A cranky opinion for

CRANKY OPINION SATURDAY

The following is the opinion of a cranky old man with little expertise on the topic opined.  Opposing opinions are welcome…they are wrong, but welcome, and as always, please, no name calling, and that means you, you big stupid head!

Recently many people have asked me,

“Cranky, how do you feel about transgender people using the restroom that they feel most associated with based on their gender orientation?”

To which at first I responded, “What? What the fuck are you talking about?”

Actually no one has asked me this question, but I have seen it posed to other people on TV and my response, as I often respond to questions posed on TV has been,

“What? What the fuck are you talking about?”

Mrs. C explained it to me, and I have thought long and hard for an opinion.

It is a concept that is difficult to rap my head around.  Hell it has not been that long since I have known about gay people.  Growing up we did have sissies and Tom boys, but sissies were just boys that did not like sports and Tom boys were girls that did like sports.

Life is very simple when you are ignorant.

OK, I get it now; some people are attracted to their own gender.  I accept it, but I don’t get it…actually lesbians make perfect sense to me.

Anyway,  I accept that as long as they don’t hurt anyone, people deserve to be happy and laws or rights should not be used to discriminate against anyone because of sexual preference.  Then I learn about transgender people, a group I never knew existed.

I learn through Katelyn (Bruce) Jenner.  Who knew; but if a 60+ year old ex-Olympic decathlon winner decides to lose his penis, this has got to be real. Giving up your penis could not be just a passing fancy.  It is a pretty serious conviction.  So, about the question,

“Cranky, how do you feel about transgender people using the restroom they feel most associated with based on their gender orientation?”

My first thought is “Hell no!” Do I want a woman who feels like a man watching me stand at a urinal?  “No, because…hmmm.” OK, if a woman feels like a man and enters my restroom looking like a man, what do I know, and why should I care.  I doubt any women would pretend to be a man simply to watch me pee and get their jollies, and if that did happen, how would I know and why would I care?

My next thought is I don’t want my wife or daughter subjected to some perverted a-hole that wanders into the ladies room just to stare.  I do think that could happen, and probably happens today with non-transgender perverts dressing as women.  So, what if it becomes a law that people can choose whatever restroom they want?

Is there even a law today that people can not choose whatever restroom they want?

The talented blogger "Murr" http://murrbrewster.blogspot.com/2016/04/free-to-pee-you-and-me.html recently posed the question, “Who would enforce such a law?”

Would every restroom have a Pee-Pee Patrol?

The unwritten rule today is enforced by people’s creep-meter.  If anyone in any restroom is acting creepy he will be avoided, reported and perhaps forcefully dealt with.  Regardless of the law, creepy behavior will not be tolerated.

Kinda like this dude who dressed like a woman.
Richard Rodriguez, 30, dressed as a woman and filmed a woman in a bathroom stall at the Potomac Mills Mall, Prince William County Police said on Tuesday. A 35-year-old woman was in the stall when she saw a bag moved toward her under the stall divider. Rodriguez apparently had been filming her, police said.
The victim rushed out of the stall to confront the man and saw him hurry to another stall, next to another woman. The victim alerted the woman and then contacted mall security of the shopping center on 2700 block of Potomac Mills Circle in Woodbridge, Virginia
Rodriguez, of Fredericksburg, was charged with three counts of unlawful filming of a non-consenting person and three counts of peeping.

So here is my opinion to the question,

“Cranky, how do you feel about transgender people using the restroom they feel most associated with based on their gender orientation?”

If you are man, woman, gay, straight, or identify a gender opposite of your plumbing, do not go into any restroom and act creepy.   How do I define creepy?  I cannot, but like pornography, I know it when I see it, and women can feel it from 100 yards.

I believe the current unwritten law should stay the law…When in a restroom; pee, poop, wash your hands and stare straight ahead. Just about anything else is creepy, and creepy in the restroom is just wrong.

The preceding was the opinion of a cranky old man and not necessarily that of management…Mrs. Cranky.

  1. If this is the way of the world, I'm glad I don't use public toilets.

  2. Transgender are not peeping Toms, or pedophiles or whatever. They are people who are going through a major crisis in life. Now, Jenner, in his 60's discovering his sexual identity is creepy to me. Those Kardashian women stripped him of his entire self-respect.

  3. The problem is, like Rodriguez, perverts will take advantage of this. There have already been rapes in co-ed dorm bathrooms. Sorry, but the general public needs to be safe before you start accommodating the very small minority.

    1. There was no law allowing Rodriguez to use this restroom yet he still did...fortunately being creepy is still illegal and always will be. Transgenders are using restrooms today, no one notices if they are not creepy.

  4. Get in, do your business, get out. And build the stalls so no one can slide stuff under.

  5. What were we told as kids? Oh, yes--mind your own business.

  6. Tru dat. And someone pointed out on something i was watching, it's actually more uncomfortable for a person who appears to be a man but technically is biologically female to use the women's restroom and appear about of place, rather than just use the men's restroom. Everyone just relax and stop legislating bathroom habits. It'll work itself out.

(But creepiness in bathroom - staring, filming, etc - SUPER NOT COOL TOTALLY REGARDLESS OF GENDER ALWAYS)

  7. I think public restrooms are unfair to women who usually need to wait in line, unlike men who seldom face lines. I think all public restrooms should be for everyone, just have a sink in every stall and locking doors for protection. We all grew up in houses that had bathrooms everyone used.

  8. Bathrooms: where you go pee and poop. Please wash your hands afterwards. I don't care/look what gender you are. That's not what bathrooms are about. If you do anything else in the bathroom it falls under "creepy" and you shall be dealt with.

  9. Being secure is key. There are so many weirdos that want to work any system for their own creepy needs. There is the problem.

Have a fabulous day Cranky. ☺

  10. This reminds me of the guy who crawled into a port-a-potty toilet (yes, down into it!) and was filming women going to the bathroom. That is above and beyond creepy! Now, I can't use a port-a-pot without looking in the hole which is in itself a whole other realm of creepy. There will always be creeps - nothing to do with gender. Who could even imagine a law regulating creeps?

  11. The real question here I think is, how are we going to enforce this? Every bathroom is going to have a monitor to make sure you are gender correct or put you thru a psych eval to determine your preference. I agree with you, go in, do your business, behave respectfully, and as long as you look like you belong there who is going to know the difference. I think we are trying to legislate something here that we really have very little control over. If you behave like a creep, you will get what you have coming to you! He'll heath no fury like a group of women who feel they're being creeped on!!!

  12. Gender cop sure is a job I don't want. In public bathrooms I'm usually in a hurry and have stuff to do. I really don't notice anyone else in the bathroom. Somehow, it is not the place I want to strike up a conversation or seek a new acquaintance. My only concern is that hopefully the someone before me didn't hover and pee on the seat and that the person in the next stall doesn't have diarrhea. That's all I ask.

  13. No answers here. I am still panicky from one of the first times I let my 5-year-old son go in a men's public restroom by himself. It was at the movies, and I stood right outside the door. He took FOREVER! When he came out, he said it took so long because a man was talking to him.

  14. "...pee, poop, wash your hands and stare straight ahead..."

Those are the only words needed for a law.

I tried to post this comment from my phone late yesterday.

  15. I believe there is a confusion of terms here. As I best understand it, transgender people haven't had the surgery. Transsexuals have. Just sayin'.

  16. Honestly, I'm uncomfortable with it all. I want women in the women and men in the men and I don't like when I'm out in public using a uni sex bathroom even though it is only one stall and the door is locked. Men are messy in the bathroom and I don't really want to be part of it out in the public domain.

Hubby has had to deal with some of the issues you mentioned in previous places he has worked.

My overall thought; unless you have done the surgery to change the plumbing so to speak, you go to the bathroom of your birth origin regardless of who you might identify with. When you get fixed to the other gender and your plumbing corresponds to such, then okay, use that bathroom.

Its just a weird subject all around. I'm thinking if God intended you to be born a woman and you identify with being a man are you disagreeing with God?

    Again, a weird subject......

  17. I agree with you. Furthermore if there is a line out the door for the women's toilet and the men's is empty, I am going to head right into the men's. Fair warning.
