A Politically Correct Invocation

A Politically Correct Invocation

Prayer, because it is a part of all Religions is clearly unconstitutional at any Government function or venue.  People who do not believe in any Religion get rightfully indignant over spiritual speak at these functions. I think it is important to start Government functions with an invocation.  This is my suggestion for one that can be accepted by believers, non-believers, agnostics, any political party and people who have a lot of time and just like to get angry.

Those who believe in a higher power may want to mumble a different version.

Our Authority which art in Washington, how great is thy name.

The King be gone, the peoples will be on,

In the states as it is in DC.

Give us this day our entitlements,

And forgive us our debts

As we pass them on to our progeny.

And lead us all with expectations

You couldn’t be evil

For thine is the Government with the power and we will know that forever.

OK

  1. This is the higher power? Not for me. Perhaps for many, but not for me. What a mess we have in Washington D.C.

Okay, I get the joke, but yikes. Yikes and double yikes.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

  2. Without government there is anarchy, or perhaps a state of one on a desert island. Can't have it all ways.

  3. Well-done. You can pull your tongue out of your cheek, now.

It's astounding how many people get offended by another person's expression of faith. The way I see it, you don't have to agree, but it wouldn't kill 'em to keep their mouths shut and be respectful. On the other hand, I saw something on Facebook the other day that cracked me up. Something like, 'Your religion and your penis have something in common. A penis is a very fine thing, and you have every right to be proud of it, but we're going to have a problem if you start waving it in my face."

  4. This is sad and funny at the same time. I'm a "say what you mean, mean what you say" kinda guy, and all these code words we have to remember and the tiny little things we have to tap dance around are driving me nuts. What's wrong with the minute of silence where you can fill in your own blanks?

  5. Nice touch, ending it with "OK."

  6. This is great, it is a humorous and entertaining way of purporting an important message, and I think you make some very valid points. I really like that your prayer touches on issues such as; the accumulation of masses of debt that will be unquestionably passed on to proceeding generations and the fallacy that everything the government does is right, correct, and not evil.
    well done

  10. I hope you don't mind if I mumble this prayer out loud at the next town hall meeting when council is questioned why a cop gets a $5.00 fine for stealing drugs and guns from the evidence room and then sells them!
