YEA or YEAH

YEA or YEAH

So I’m writing a post and I want to express happiness about something.  I write “yeah” then it doesn’t seem correct, so I try “yea.”  That didn’t seem right either.  I suppose I could Google it, but instead I asked Mrs. Cranky.

“If I want to show happiness, is the word Y-E-A, or Y-E-A-H?”

“Yes.”

“Yes. But is it spelled Y-E-A, or Y-E-A-H.”

“Y-E-A-H.”

“Yea?”

“Yes.”

“Yes yea, or yes yeah.”

“Yup.”

“Yup what?”

“Yup yeah.”

“Yup Y-E-A-H or yup Y-E-A?”

“Yup Y-E-A-H.”

“So not Y-E-A.”

“No, Y-E-A is in yea or nay, Y-E-A-H is yeah as in yippy.”

“Maybe I should just say yippy.”

“OK”

“I should Google it.”

I Googled it.

“Which is it?”

“Not Y-E-A or Y-E-A-H.”

“No?”

“Yeah”

“That’s what I said.”

“No, not Y-E-A, that means yes in the affirmative, not Y-E-A-H, that means yup.  It should be Y-A-Y…Yay!”

I finally just wrote that it makes me happy.

  1. I think there are regional considerations that have to be taken into....consideration. If you're from Boston, (Bahston) then it'll be different than if you're from say, Louisiana. Were you saying something?

  5. That's so funny because I was just debating this same issue two days ago. I also gave up and wrote something different. Yay!! Of course I won't remember that two months from now.

  6. I'm a "yeah," man myself. But I do have difficulty with colloquial words like this.

  7. The definitive answer is in the title of my blog... erstwhile as it may be
You can pronounce it anyway you want, but there's only one way to spell it

If I had heard that conversation while in a state of hunger, it would have driven me crazy; otherwise, yes/yea/yeah/yippee/yep, I get it.

  13. Dang! I commend you for expending all that effort to get the proper result! Which most people will not even notice. What's next on your agenda, ironing your underwear?
