DO YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC?

DO YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC?

I am, by nature, a skeptic.  I once saw a circus elephant disappear in a puff of smoke right before my eyes.  Magic right?  But I know it was a trick.  I don’t know how, but it was a trick, an illusion, a good one, but not real, not magic.  I don’t believe in magic.  Well I didn’t, until recently.

In our kitchen we have a sugar bowl, a coffee can, a rack for Krups coffee cups, a container of coffee creamer, and a shaker of cinnamon.  I am the only one in the house that drinks coffee.  Mrs. C does not use sugar, creamer or cinnamon.  I have coffee every day.  I have creamer and sugar with my coffee.  I often have oatmeal in the morning and I use cinnamon in my oatmeal.

Whenever the sugar bowl gets low, I make a mental note to refill it tomorrow.  When the coffee can is scraping bottom or we are low on Krups coffee cups, I plan to refill and restock tomorrow.  If I have just enough coffee creamer for my morning addiction, I try to remember to refill the container…tomorrow.  Today I used all of the remaining cinnamon for my oatmeal.  I will have to refill it tomorrow.

Except.

In my house tomorrow never comes.  Every morning the sugar bowl has either just enough for my morning cup, or it is full to the brim.  The coffee can always has enough coffee to meet my needs, the Krups rack never goes empty and the creamer never completely runs out.

It can’t be Mrs. C refilling all these items, she never uses them.  How would she know they were running short?  No way.  It is obviously magic.  We have a magic kitchen.

Tomorrow I plan on having oatmeal for breakfast.  Am I concerned that we are out of cinnamon?  I should be, but somehow that shaker will be full.

How?

Magic!

  1. This reminds me of something I heard an author say while on his book promoting tour. He spends so much time writing his books that he doesn't think about how things get done around the house. Specifically, he mentioned the hand soap dispensers on the various sinks throughout the house; how they are always filled. He never has to worry about pressing the pump and nothing coming out. Must be magic... the same kind at your house, and mine, too. :) The magic loves you.

  2. I would fill another can full of $100 bills and put it right next to the coffee, cinnamon, etc., then I'd use it for my weekly bowling, beer, fun money....you see where this is going? ;)

  4. No magic over here...especially in the bathrooms with the perpetually empty toilet paper rings.

  5. I'm afraid this magic is working in reverse at my house, containers I last saw being adequately full have a way of self-emptying without notice. I suspect it could be the cats having wild parties in our absence, or perhaps a wild roaming bear?? :-)

  6. Sounds like the same kind of magic that's always existed at our house. Our kids were very unhappy when they moved out on their own and found that the dirty clothes they left strewn on the floor didn't magically wash and iron themselves any more.

I'd say your wife's middle name is Magic.

  7. I think you must have the same magician living in your house as my husband has in ours. How can that be? MAGIC!!

  8. When it comes to magic I know that magicians are just fooling us with slight of hand and visual manipulation, but I still think it's neat that our eyes can be played with so easily.

By the way, if you're the only one at your house drinking coffee I suggest you ask Santa for a Keurig coffee maker this year. One cup at a time in thirty seconds; no waste and no clean-up.

  9. Ha ha. And when the magic runs out you'll know magic is gone. Be appreciative. Be very appreciative.

  10. If you left an elephant in your kitchen, would that magic make it disappear, or would there be more elephants the next morning?

  11. Sounds like you married the Good Witch this time. Yes, and what about lowandslow's idea and Val's question?

  12. Forget lowandslow's idea. I'll come and loan you my wallet. It's just about empty...

  13. It's called Marriage, my friend. That's where the magical part comes in to play... Your wife..

Even if she doesn't use the said items, she's obviously looking after the "cranky old man" :).

    Cheers.
